Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

I just got a similar response on Twitter to change DNS settings on all boxes.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

I understand this issue mainly affects BT broadband users... who would have known that would be the case, and that BT verses Sky challenges would become our problem! So it's seems like a spat between these two, also EE verses O2! It's pretty shoddy from Sky and BT. Both organisations are falling extremely short on customer service!

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

BT clearly need to work with Sky to resolve this issue, but i think that the thing that is annoying people most is that Sky are just saying its a BT issue and advising customers to contact BT directly, but they aren't telling anybody what the actual issue is so that you have something to tell BT!

Ultimately the 2 company's need to work together and come up with a fix and roll it out when its ready.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Personally speaking,  I have always found SKY Q with several mini boxes a pretty unstable system.  The concept is great but the execution is poor IMHO.  I too have been having problems with not being able to watch any OnDemand services (I am a BT fibre 100 broadband customer).

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Another one suffering with the same issue for the last week or so. I tried teh DNS update to 1.1.1.1 yesterday and it made not a jot of difference. Eventually got through to a very tired sounding person at SKY, who have arranged for an engineer  to come out on 24th. Given the updates so far, I can't see him fixing it.....

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Just been on a Sky Facebook group.

somebody has just confidently posted that changing the DNS is the fix. I replied that it's only temporary not permanent and was told "no I've got the Sky engineer here now and he assures me that's the fix"

I did point out there were dozens of posts on here from people who have all been told the exact same thing and then came back to say it had gone wrong again.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

I've never had one single problem with Sky in over 20 years - until now!

I am with BT and I contacted them and they wanted to help but had no idea what the issue was and told me to go to Sky.

My contract is up for renewal and was wondering if people with BT TV are having same issues (I'm not sure how BT TV works), but had a glimpse and they cover the channels I watch, but wasn't sure about On Demand).

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

@ChrisVM  Agreed. I had nothing but problems with my mini boxes so in the end just got rid of em. Sky's diagnosis was always the same...It's your broadband provider

I have the same problem. On select programs the download failed.

Was able to download one episode in another series but it stopped working half way through.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

I've been trying various options as still waiting for Sky to get back to me.

Not sure if this has fixed it or whether it's coincidence but maybe if a few folk who are happy to edit their broadband router setup could try this it might help with diagnosis a bit more....

I changed the DNS server in the Sky Q box to 8.8.8.8 but it didn't help. Probs not surprising as I have that set in my router anyway which the Sky box uses by default for DNS.

What may have made a difference is setting one of the router's DNS entries as if I was on Sky broadband.

So, what I did was:

  • Set the Sky Q box back to automatic network configuration (DNS server will be the IP address of your router e.g. 192.168.1.1)
  • Edit the router's DNS settings and change from auto to manual.
  • Set the primary DNS server IP to 8.8.8.8 (Google)
  • Set the secondary DNS server IP to 90.207.238.97 (Sky broadband)
  • Save the changes
  • Reset the Sky Q box network connection to be sure that changes are picked up
  • See if it's made a difference

For me it seems to fixed it - but it could just be coincidence.

Please try this if you're happy to and post back your findings.

haha....reading that made my head almost explode.

I have never changed any router settings, so will see what I can do on my BT router.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

They work if you connect everything up via Powerline sockets and disable the Wi-Fi on the main box.
