@TrevA - If what you have been told is true then Sky should remove the adverts until they resolve the issue (I skip through them anyway!). Stange however that sometimes the downloads work OK including the adverts.

@TrevA I also tried changing my router to use 8.8.8.8 but no help.

 

For info, this is the address for the primary or secondary DNS server used by your router.

Usually your ISP assigns these to your router but you can override. 8.8.8.8 is a Google DNS server.

 

This change would therefore only have an effect if the problem was that the Sky box can't resolve the name of the server(s) that it's trying to connect to whatever they are....

 

It's possible (likely?) that there are several and maybe one or more is down - complete speculation but that's what you tend to do when you can't get sight of the real problem (frustration emojii)!!

@TrevA Actually - just re-reading your post - did you change to 8.8.8.8 on the Sky box?

I changed on my router so maybe worth trying on the Sky box if I can find the settings....

No, catchup is streaming, not downloaded. We're mostly in agreement about everything though 🤓

 

come on Sky!!

It might be worth everyone setting wanted programs to record. They won't record because of this massive issue. But ... maaaaaaaybe you might be lucky and one or two things might download by pure chance. You never know.

I'm just thinking this might not be fixed by Xmas ...

Im sure its already outlined on here a few times but thought Id share what worked for me.  I have sky Q and worked out that it was only SKy channels I couldnt download (kept saying download failed) I phoned customer services and they took me to settings > network > advanced settings > changed DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 then confirm and unplug from mains, check there was internet connection.  This didnt work for me but going back again to change it to 1.1.1.1 turn off and on again did work...............so happy

Catchup is downloaded too isn't it? 

You download it, it sits in your recordings until you delete it or it expires whatever comes first. 

If it was streamed, it wouldn't appear in your recordings.

@terrigriffgrogg  I wouldn't ge too happy just yet. That's been proved to only be a temporary solution and will likely stop downloading before very long.

Just had an engineer attend. I knew more about the issue than he did he said he had no idea there was any problems and I told him about this forum. Changed the settings and both failed in front of him. He said he could change the box but there's no point if it's a known issue. I just cannot believe we are getting this service

I just don't understand why Sky haven't sent an email to their engineers and support staff making them aware, even just by the amount of people posting about it on here and Twitter etc it's a pretty widespread issue and how many others are experiencing it that don't visit

these forums or do soical media?

@terrigriffgrogg This is just smoke and mirrors from Sky to buy time, classic software developer ploy, i am having the same issues as everybody else but I haven't made any changes to the DNS on the box and just some perseverance has allowed me to download what i want.

 

I would hazard the 'Ad Break' explanation is also another way to throw us off the scent, as it varies from download to download whether they have them or not, I've downloaded both and both have had issues.

 

lastly, if something appears in your list of recordings, then that's a download, if you just watch something like Netflix or Amazon Prime, it is independent and doesn't appear in your recordings, so that's streaming. 😉

@Goooner1 I find that hard to believe, I've found that Sky Engineers and Support staff are generally fairly switched on and are also big users of Sky, so they must have come across the problem themselves.

 

But as you say, with all of the information on this Discussion, everybody should be up to date on the situation, we just need something official from Sky now, which we rarely if ever get, but we may be surprised as I've NEVER seen a Sky employee post on a discussion asking for specific detail like they have done here.

The trouble is every engineer and support person on the phone or on Twitter tells people something different and it's all technically official because it's come from a Sky employee.

This is the response I received today to my latest email.....

 

"I wish to inform you that our support teams are currently investigating and there are no update by when the issue will be resolved. Once the issue will be resolved you will be updated on the same. Hence, I request you to wait till then."
