I do luv how we get these topics where we divide the community and folks end up arguing against each other. Sky must luv that when it gets to contentious issues as it takes the heat of them 😉😂

Airplay was added via the latest TV software update wasn't added by changing location.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box

Just to throw a little more fuel on the fire - and please note these are just observations - the Express added another article about this apparent magical reveal.

https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/1489990/All-New-Sky-Q-Without-Satellite-Dish...

There's a price list (which looks genuine but I couldn't say for sure) on there which has some rather curious information... such as "the world's best tv service... DIRECTLY IN a TV set" and picture and sound modes that automatically adjust...(not really something you'd find in a STB) and a universal search option.

Also on Digital Spy someone pointed out a BBC IPlayer GitHub page (now unavailable) where it showed two possible Sky devices being tested, one called 'Sky OTT' and one called 'Sky TV.'

And also the rather coincidental reveal that Comcast are about to launch a smart tv product - https://www.fiercevideo.com/video/comcast-preps-xclass-line-smart-tvs-for-launch - which follows several months of some of their bosses talking about uniting Q and Comcast's X1 into one global tech stack they can deploy to things like smart TVs.

I think it's easy to concur we will definitely see the IP based service but given they have launched that box with little to no fuss in the European markets,  I do wonder if we may see something else worthy of a 'magical' press event? I wonder (and this is just me guessing from what I've read and reserve the right to be completely wrong) if we may see Sky launch some of kind of native smart tv software/OS to support IP delivery? Or even an actual Sky branded and operated Smart TV itself? An IP box will be news but it seems almost obvious so a part of me thinks we could see something else a little more dramatic perhaps?

Thanks I have a 55UM7400PLB on 05.10.25

I just noticed my auto updates were turned off, but no update avalible, can I ask @best+of+the+best did yours update recently?

I'm really hoping this is what the Accessibility team have been promising me for so very long.  Which was delayed, understandably.

@best+of+the+best  Pretty sure I had an update about a week ago, perhaps my set is considered as getting old (I hope not).

I was just looking at LG WebOS V6

Its intresting how the word magic is more prominant,  with things like "magic tap" to share content from NFC enabled mobile phones via the new 2021 redesigned magic remote that now features a Disney+ button.

Maybe Sky being a more global company now is indeed gearing up something bigger and becoming much less reliant on in-house hardware.

Thanks for the link @Pogit I do have the previous Magic Remote with dedicated Amazon and Netflix button.

I use the voice control on the Magic remote to open the Disney+ app on my tv or I use the quick access button to launch Disney plus with a long press on button 1 on the Magic Remote opens the app as well.

Today's announcement from Comcast suggest three products:

  • Sky XiOne
  • Sky Glass TV
  • Sky Stream Puck - used to provide TV in another room

According to the text on the box.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box

So we're probably looking at either

 A new sky box

A streaming box

A smart tv app

or

A new streaming box

A new slave box (post Q & Stream sub)

A New Smart TV App (&or new app altogether)

I think the second option is the more likely one as a lot of people who just paid to upgrade their MainQ boxes won't be happy.

but either way having a major player make the hardware and presumably firmware has got to be good for customers, though the coloured dots button shouts Google to me so maybe they have gone down that route for the search/ AI route? Na scratch that they're in the wrong order so just coloured buttons...
