Possibly customer psychology. People are now so used to paying c£10 pcm for streaming into an app: having a Sky-branded box there under each TV set may be necessary to convince them that a Sky television subscription is 'worth' five times that much...

I have a "HP EliteOne 1000 G2 34" WQHD Non Touch AiO with i7" in my office with the Sky Go app on it and it works well avoiding the need for an additional box it links to the main box so I can watch recordings etc if I wish.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
It's looking more and more imminent now, I reckon it's a matter of weeks or even days away from being announced as ready. This has taken so long though. I hope it won't be a disappointment, the content needs to be really good, not just glorified Now TV stuff. The amount of time we have been kept waiting for this, it needs to be dynamite to make up for it. I can remember the TalkTalk internet box, now that really was good but the only reason I gave that up and changed to Sky was that Sky was offering a much better broadband price deal and I presumed that they would have a similar box or at least one just around the corner. Well, that was about five or six years ago and since then, whilst I have no regrets as far as the broadband that Sky provides goes, which is moderately better, I've been regretting giving up the TalkTalk TV box and hoping Sky would do one of their own that was as good. No pressure or anything but the TalkTalk box was very good, lots of exclusive content, it would be almost worth switching back again for that alone, just saying.

There ARE full stops.......just no paragraphs, I'll give you that much sunshine, as Eric Morcambe once said, if you're old enough to remember that famous sketch 😀

Content will be exactly the same as is available to Q subscribers on broadcast Sky: that's the whole point. Why on earth would Sky consider having 'exclusive content' in an online Q version that could only seriously annoy the seven million or so existing Q-by-satellite households, particularly those with poorer internet access for whom switching is not an option?

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek with the "exclusive content" thing lol but the point I was getting at was that it has taken so long that Sky really ought to, in some way or another, be rewarding the patience of people who up until this point, have not been able to have Sky Dishes on their homes for various reasons and really need this internet-only box to get proper Sky TV.
Among those reasons are including in the case where homes are rented and landlords won't give Sky access to their roofs (like in my situation). Yes, I know they probably won't reward us for our patience but I'm referring to the ideal, rather than the reality.
The proverbial bottom line for me is it needs to be at least as good as the TalkTalk box and more to the point, the price ought to be more competitive, otherwise, I will be asking myself some obvious questions like why don't I just go back to TalkTalk,?
And, to be honest, I don't want to be asking that question but I might have to soon if this box takes any longer because we're still in the realms of the hypothetical at the moment, it hasn't ACTUALLY been launched, I just have reasons to believe it will be soon.

Sky Multiple Development Unit (MDU) trained engineers have never required access to the actual roof mounted communal Integrated Reception System (IRS) dishes, they merely require access to either the central communal IRS distribution cabinet, or in larger communal IRS installations the closest 'riser' cabinet to the subscriber's flat.

Because receiving 'proper' Sky television is some kind of human right which people who can't get access to a satellite dish have been wickedly deprived of by a heartless corporation? Shame on them....

Not bad but can you try and be much more sarcastic than that TimmyBGood? That wasn't acid-tongued enough, I'm afraid. Not for the standards here. You sounded far too much like you were being nice and pleasant to me, the new boy, and we obviously can't have that on here, you're letting the rest of them down son.😀😉

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
Are you wired up right @Silver+Surfer+64 what is proper Sky TV .
People choose to have Sky they are not forced to have it.
If you can't have a dish attached to your property use an alternative like Now TV and pay for subscriptions as and when you need them without the need to enter into a long term contract.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
Oh come on, that's nonsense lol. The whole reason why people choose the SkyQ box over NowTV is because NowTV is limited in content, which is what I meant by 'proper Sky TV'. I've got NowTV already BTW, it's not bad but it's obviously not on a par with the box or there would be no need for the box.
