I'm referring to all the SkyQ boxes in general.

The official announcement is apparently scheduled for the 7th October.

I hope it has more storage than its American cousin, Comcast's Xfinity X1 has 500GB of internal space. according to this review.

They've got to leave something for us to complain about... 😁

I'd personally prefer it if it had no storage at all and just streamed everything. 500Gb will disappear very quickly if you're downloading UHD content.

Whether it is to be believed or not the main point I have taken from the express' pricing graphic is the universal search across all apps.

I would like that now on Sky Q.

Given Sky's use of the Arthur C. Clark quote in their advert, it certainly points towards this being the launch of Sky Q without a satellite dish.

NOTE: In 1945 Arthur C. Clark was the first to publish/conceive of the use of geostationary satellites for television broadcast.

Yep, the media are picking up on this now:

But that tagline... #MadeofMagic - I mean please.... sack the marketing team that came up with that nonsense.

It's actually a brilliant marketing nod to Arthur C Clarke's third law "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from Magic".

Linking Clarke's third law to the launch of a satellite television service which does away with his "invention" of the geostationary satellite is very clever in my opinion.

I get the clever reference but they really should have come up with a better hashtag. Do a search for it on Twitter, Instagram or any social media platform and the results are overwhelmingly NOT anything to do with what Sky would like it to be about. Yes, that'll change closer to launch but really, madeofmagic?

The whiff I get from that is not sweet smelling, that's for sure. If they think some cloud storage and UHD streaming is magical then they're about 5 years too late.

I agree if #madeofmagic is just about a streaming box they so far out of touch it's not magical it's unbelievable.  IPTV has been about since the 1990s that's three decades behind the times and shows Sky as being far from the leader in TV tech they used to be.   Personally I'm hoping it's the long promised new Q software that brings many many asked for features and multi user intergration across multiple devices you know like every other TV streaming service!

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box

Great for some who cant have/dont want a dish but for me a Q box that just streams is not magic.

My version of magic will be -

Universal search across all apps

Integrated app watchlists in to Q planner

Profiles

4k mini box or Q TV app like in Germany.

I dont want much really 😂
