There is a £2 charge per day which has to be paid I'm afraid as there is no way around this if using data when abroad.

Re: Sky roaming charges

Yes I get that, but when I go on my account it won't show my bill so I can understand where the extra has come from, I've only been away 4 days and the only numbers I have called areGerman 0800 numbers which should be free. There was no warning from Sky they were introducing roaming charges, I have 45 gb in my piggy bank which I have to pay to use.

My wife is with O2 and she has not been hit so you can guess where I will be going as soon as my contract is up

@David987

All customers were informed prior to the annual bill increases.

Re: Sky roaming charges

Does using Strava with roaming switched off activate this charge?

Will Strava even work with roaming switched off?

No, you'll be charged international rates for those.  Calls included in your package to the UK are 'free'.

Re: Sky roaming charges

But to access these "free" calls I have to pay £2 per day, is that correct?

Re: Sky roaming charges

So my £6 per month unlimited calls and texts sim will cost me £70 for the 5 weeks I will be away?

Correct. You are paying £2 a day so that you don't get charged for making calls or texts whilst abroad to your family/friends back home in UK. As well as using your data.

@David987

I don't know anything about the German phone system or pricing but surely if you are dialling from a UK mobile, regardless of where you are located you're likely to be charged?

Re: Sky roaming charges

You're defending the indefensible,  it's just pure greed. Funny how all the operators firstly said they had no plans to charge then independently all came up with a figure of £2 per day, my £6 per month sim will cost £60 per month when I'm away, I've got 45gb of saved data I have to pay to access

No one went bust during the 5 years of no roaming charges, it's just snouts in the trough.

@Daniel0210  Correct, OP is using a UK Mobile provider to dial a German 0800 number, that is actually classed as a International call,  to benefit from the German free 0800 number you actually need to be using a German  Mobile Network providers sim.

Always worth considering for long stays https://www.simplegermany.com/best-prepaid-sim-card-germany/
