Sky on demand not connecting - sky plus box

I have never been able to get my sky on demand connector to work,--I have tried many times over the years without success -- but today I plugged it in -- put in the router password and bingo it worked perfectly -- unfortunatly after about 20 minutes it failed --the white connection lights are both on-- I tried the reset suggested by Mark but no joy -- is it possible the connector is at fault ?

I finally got it to work. I changed the routers dns to the Google one and now it all works!

Me too - got the Wi-fi MAC address from system information menu, and then added as a static address in the DHCP configuration page on my router.

So I have read this thread all through as I have similar issues.  I have a Skybox+HD with inputs from a dish; two cables. I have a Wireless On Demand connector with the two white lights and wps button on the front.  My Skybox seees the internet network signal, when I go to Services>Network  it tells me that all is fine. But if I disconnect my dish inputs all I keep getting is a Satellite signal not found error message. So I disconnected  my wireless connector and tried connecting my Skybox via an R35 cable from my mains repeater/expander but again, same thing, the skybox "sees" the digital Network signal but gives me Satellite signal not found error message.  And this comes after powering everything off, disconnecting and rebooting the skybox. No matter what I seem to do, the skybox does not seem to want to use the network signal. Is this a DHCP problem? I have a BT wireless Hub 5  router which seems to work well; not sure if I can go in and change any of its settings.  Any suggestions greatly appreciated to get the Skybox to use the network signal instead of the dish.

It's simply not possible, I'm afraid. Your Sky box is designed to work with a satellite signal.

Thanks for your reply Mark which has stunned me - it was Sky who suggested I buy their wireless connector device to improve my reception!  And the Skybox is receiving a network signal - here is a screenshot that shows the connection....

Mark, I have also looked at the instructions and it definitely says that the SC201 Wireless Connector is compatible with the Sky+HD box and shows how to connect to it.

@Villan881 the SC201 Mini connector enables your Sky box to connect over wifi to Sky's On Demand content -  Catch Up, Box Sets, Sky Store etc. For live tv, which means all the tv channels shown in the TV Guide, your Sky box needs a connection to the dish. Your Sky box also needs a connection to the dish to initialise - it simply won't start yp without one. Sorry.

The sky box is a satellite reciever  primarily and a Wi-Fi connection just adds extra features on top of the core function, the box can perform without broadband but not without a satellite signal from a dish

If you don't have a Satellite signal but do have a paid Sky account, what you can do  is what I do when I am at my French house. I sign on to my Sky account then use the Sky  Go app on a Mac Mini computer, connected with an HDMI 2.1 cable to a 4K TV. My internet connection at 17mbps, is just fast enough for an HD picture but I occasionally get signal drops or pixelating. You have to ensure that your Sky Go account is used from the UK at least once a month. A VPN does not work for this.

I do have a UK satellite signal in France but it is Freesat (with a huge 150cm dish and a special Fracarro LNB, plus 11mm armoured low loss cables from the dish in the garden to the house and even then I don't get quite a lot of the threoretically available channels like ITV HD and BBC Ch.4 because they are on the north lobe and there is no appreciable signal even with my big dish in the south east of France.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I now understand the errors of my way with this but that was definitely not what the nice lady at Sky told me it could do! Currently living abroard so will wait until I'm back next year living in the UK before upgrading to a Q Box or whatever it will be then.  Until then, I'll put up with weather affected reception! My other option is to connect on my iPad with the Apple cable adapter. Abroard I have my own dedicated UK VPN server so i can  access Sky Go and watch on the TV there via the Apple adapter. Thanks again for everyones advice, much appreciated.

If you are in Europe no VPN needed for Sky Go and in fact Sky Go often will not work via a VPN. Sky's VPN detection is pretty good. If your's is a wholly private VPN that may still work. I used to have one of those when we used a MacPro left permanently on in our UK house as a family server and NAS (with 4 x 2TB hard discs in it). For various reasons we sold that off, so now there is no permanently switched on computer in our UK house to run a private VPN. I therefore now use Nord for Amazon UK Prime and BBC iPlayer while in France.
