Annie, 

 

Not all routers permit you to set a static IP from the router. You can often set static IP from the device that is seeking a connection with the router but it is still then up to the DHCP on the router to accept and assign that static IP address to the device. I tried setting a static IP address from the on demand box but my router's log  (I was using a Draytek VDSL/2 Modem Router at the time), showed it had rejected the IP address from the on demand box. I have not tried with my current TP-Link router but as my on demand box is currently connected and talking to this router (which has a far stronger WPS signal than the Draytek one had), I am reluctant to mess about with things. The only thing I cannot get to connect with any consistency is my iPad via the Sky+ App. Occasionally the on demand box loses the wifi connection but at least my current router does reconnect with the WPS button on the box and the router.

I’m using a TP-Link Archer C7 via Ethernet, I would always recommend Ethernet over Wi-Fi every time as it is more secure and suffers less from interference

 

You should be able to set a static IP Address on the Sky Box itself if a router does not allow it, you just use an address outside DHCPs scope

I know that if i do they will charge me for an engineer to come here and possibly charge me again for a new sky box

That’s not how it works, skys call-out charge of £65 includes ALL parts and Labour to get your system up and working again
