Sky Q hub resets because of "kernel panic marker detected in the flash". Why?
My Sky Q router has come up with a odd error which caused it to reboot.
<X_SKY_REBOOT_CAUSE>
<RebootReasonType>KLRT</RebootReasonType>
<RebootReasonCode>1001</RebootReasonCode>
<RebootInfo>kernel panic marker detected in the flash</RebootInfo>
</X_SKY_REBOOT_CAUSE>
Yesterday it was ....
<X_SKY_REBOOT_CAUSE>
<RebootReasonType>KLRT</RebootReasonType>
<RebootReasonCode>1003</RebootReasonCode>
<RebootInfo>CPE has been software resetted (possibly watchdog timeout, if no other indicators)</RebootInfo>
</X_SKY_REBOOT_CAUSE>
I don't think it's a faulty router. Not long been replaced. Date of first use is 2020-05-01T17:40:22+00:00.
Hoow best to report this issue to Sky and to the right department/section/people and does anyone know why the router would experience a kernel panic?

Could quite easily be faulty after a firmware upgrade. I think your best best is a replacement router first to see if it happens after that

Ok. Think I will. Version of the router firmware is 2.21.2761.R and it's a ER115 router.
The last Kernel I-have-turned-up-my-toes message was ....
<X_SKY_REBOOT_CAUSE>
<RebootReasonType>KLRT</RebootReasonType>
<RebootReasonCode>1002</RebootReasonCode>
<RebootInfo>kernel die marker detected in the flash</RebootInfo>
</X_SKY_REBOOT_CAUSE>

Re: Sky Q hub resets because of "kernel panic marker detected in the flash". Why?
Ooh
Interesting
I am hopefully getting a replacement router as mine has been rebooting randomly
(so far caught it twice in the space of 4 days)
Router was new when I jojned (1st Feb 2021) - so again a relatively "new" router
I looked through the backup and get
<RebootReasonType>KLRT</RebootReasonType>
<RebootReasonCode>1003</RebootReasonCode>
<RebootInfo>CPE has been software resetted (possibly watchdog timeout, if no other indicators)</RebootInfo>
</X_SKY_REBOOT_CAUSE>
I am none the wiser and this was the only "hit" that I found - so felt compelled to post

Re: Sky Q hub resets because of "kernel panic marker detected in the flash". Why?
new router arrived 3 days ago
The firmware on the newly fitted ER115 is 2.21.2761.R
I checked the rebootcause on this "new" router before I did anything with it
....So it came with this message already in there
this morning just before 8 - son announces internet off
Went into room where router is sited - and router is mid reboot (lights blinking)
Logs wiped
Firmware the same (so not a firmware update)
Made a backup and had a look
reboot cause the same - only time has changed
So last one was able to stay on for 4 days, replacement seemingly only 3
have you made any progress, whilst I have slipped backwards?
Be nice to have a router that is allowed to settle and am looking at putting a 3rd party router in its place as I can only see this being related to the router itself

Re: Sky Q hub resets because of "kernel panic marker detected in the flash". Why?
Watchdog timer would be some process within the router that acts like a dead-mans-switch. On the next watchdog timer event if certain conditions are not met remedial action can occur. Usually a full reboot of the router.
So, for example, if someone somewhere on the Internet maganges to send something to the router that locks it up (could be a denial of service attack or a probe that causes the router to get really confused, when the watchdog timer trips the router will reset because something is wrong and, well, life goes on.
It becomes a issue when some events, either within the router or external are causing the watchdog routine to very frequently reboot the router.
