Sky Q box changeover help needed, please

I've just upgraded my Sky Q box to one with a larger capacity and am waiting for it to be delivered. I don't know, however, what happens to my recordings when I switch over. I remember they were lost when changing from Sky+ to Sky Q but am hoping they will be kept when it's Q to Q. Does anyone know and can please help? Some are saved items we've had for years that we can't find anywhere else.

@CKZ You will lose all your recordings I'm afraid. Sky boxes are not designed for saving recordings indefinitely.

PS: don't forget to take your viewing card out of your old box before the delivery driver takes the box away.

Thank you, that's helpful - if not what I wanted to hear! Is there a way to record from the Sky box to save it, do you know?

Not easily. Sky Q boxes only have HDMI outputs and there are not many recording devices with HDMI inputs. Most recordings are also encrypted to stop them being copied in such a fashion anyway.

@CKZ No, I'm pretty sure there isn't. Hopefully most of your content can be found and re-recorded or downloaded again. Make a note / take a picture of your recordings and also any series links you have set up.

@fizzdisco @Daniel0210

Thanks, both - much more helpful than the Sky faq! I really appreciate you confirming that for me.

If you have a Q Mini box as well as a main Q box, they have a mini-jack port on the rear which in theory may be capable of output to a DVD recorder either over RCA-plug or SCART adapter (in low quality and subject to analogue copy protection) by using an appropriate cable: the Nokia CA-75U is typically mentioned.

Thanks, @TimmyBGood ☺️ I appreciate your suggestion.

They came to get it before I had a chance to try, now I know from experience you definitely do lose absolutely everything...🥺
