Sky Q Release Q17

Had this Q 17 update on my Sky Q main and mini box overnight.

We are told it contains the following updates;

Rails in the show pages

On the Show Pages has changed from a list view to a rail view. 

Voice in apps

You can now use some Voice Control commands when you are within the apps.

• Switch to a channel, i.e. saying BBC One in Disney+ will tune to BBC One
• Switch to the main menus, i.e. saying recordings in Disney+ will take you to your recordings
• Switch between apps, i.e. saying Disney+ in Netflix will open Disney+

This is the first update, and the plan is to now increase the level of voice capability within the apps.

Sky Q hotspots enabled for non-Sky broadband customers

Non-Sky broadband customers can now enable Sky Q hotspots via Settings -> Setup -> Advanced settings. This will be for 2.4Ghz only and the option will not appear for Sky Broadband customers.

Something has definitely changed when viewing a series link of recordings.  Whatever the update has done, it still hasn't resolved the issue when exiting a recording, it doesn't always take you back to the list of recordings.  Still seems very hit and miss.

Having used it briefly this morning.

Full version is Q170.000.23.00L (5dhvnjw)

Liking the series rail. Much better laid out and easier to navigate across series than the recent previous builds.
Seemed odd at first to see the options for each selected episode tile underneath. But understand why and will get used to that quickly.

The voice within apps works very well indeed.
Launching apps within apps, going to a specific Sky channel or a specific Sky menu is quick and easy.

For searching Sky content, noticed it bought up a Dismiss and Go to Sky option on the top right. Not sure why, as I had hit the voice button and asked the question, so why did it not just go there on my search result.

Also, searching for Sky content does not work within an app on a Sky Q mini, only on the main Sky Q box. The app launching, change to a sky channel and sky menu selecion though does work on the mini fine.

Just had a look in the engineer menu and cannot find anything to 'enable' the hotspot for non Sky Broadband users.

@digglerthelegend Apparently it's in the main settings and not the engineer settings. Settings>setup

When I saw it's only using the 2.4GHz band I thought the same although I'm with Sky Broadband so not really an issue from my POV.

underwhelmed by hot spots, perhaps they are cool spots as I get a stronger signal direct from my router which is 20' further away.

At least it looks like the hot spots are off by default.

Though I don't see anything about hotspots in settings > setup.  Is it a standalone option or inside network? Also can you customise the network name, I doubt I'd use it personally if it's only 2.4G but it could be handy if none customers could use it and use existing details.  That said I like to keep the less network minded people in the house on the guest network and not the main one 😉

My box has gone really slow since this update. you go to recordings and select say eastenders and the screen goes blank with no info for about 5 seconds then shows up eastenders recording. This happens on them all. so something sky need to look into

@ycwkpp8989  I was getting the same issue and I haven't had the Q170 update so I don't think the two are linked.

I solved the problem by switching off at wall for a few minutes and restarting, following the onscreen instructions.

Having exactly the same problem for Recordings since having Q17.
Have repowered box and no different.
