Re: Sky HDR

@NMF26  it's not getting snidey but if you can't be bothered to read back and see a sky community manager actually commented on the upgrade policy and then when we point you in the right direction don't believe us then your probably best out of it

I'd like to see that statement on their web site. Along with them saying it would be a non-cost upgrade!

As far as the box goes it should be a free swap in time .. when that's a different matter.

Yeah, I know that and as I said, it's just me moaning. Perhaps they could enable us existing long standing subscribers to swap the box for one that will enable HDR?

..

The honest answer is no one as of now know the true answer. let alone a start date

Though the numbers of V1 boxes in use may be in the 100'000's but a very large majority of those boxes are in homes who do not care or do not know about HDR .. So maybe it may not take as long as we fear.

To pass HLG ALL of the HDMI ports in the chain have to be HDMI 2.0b or higher. I suspect the V1 boxes don't have 2.0b ports and as far as I know they can't be upgraded by software. Devices like the HDfury can't change this either, therefore you will not be getting true HLG HDR even if your TV thinks it is getting it.

I think you will find a HDMI 2.0 a will do HDR/HLG.

Re: Sky HDR

@JOHNGALLEY  sadly your wrong again

Most of "b" is a carryover from "a" and "_" versions of 2.0, with some refinements, most notably Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG). This is a different way to transmit HDR content. For a deep dive, one of the co-creators is the BBC and it's got a well-written PDF Q&A

For now, though, don't worry about it. There's not much support for HLG yet. The only reason 2.0b is worth mentioning is it's being implemented on 2017 TVs instead of HDMI 2.1. Which brings us to…

Re: Sky HDR

Was this meant for me?

I have the 2TB V3 box and HDR does show as on in the Sony TV Menu.

I'm not too bothered right now in all honesty as there's not enough content, i'm just hoping its not an issue with how HLG works on my TV as currently, HDR Content via Sky is very poor, and the only difference between Sky and Netflix/Amazon/4K-Blu-ray is the HDR Method i.e HLG VS HDR10/Dolby Vision.

Re: Sky HDR

@Zaim99 , I agree with the majority of your comments but Amazon/Netflix/Disney + are far superior delivered through Smart TV apps or Firesticks/similar than antiquated minis which are not capable of even UHD 4 years after their launch

Re: Sky HDR

@Paulonthetelly  the minis won't ever do uhd as the bandwidth needed would be too great I can't even stream 4k from my phone to the TV and that's 5G

Re: Sky HDR

@da1e7150 , really I have no problem with built in apps and Amazon Fire stick 4k  for £30

Re: Sky HDR

@Paulonthetelly  Me too and would throw in the Roku Streaming Stick + as well - superb UHD HDR-HLG

Re: Sky HDR

@Paulonthetelly  you do realise your Sticks and boxes are streaming directly from the internet. The mini box gets all the sky programs from streaming from main box to mini. If it was a viable option don't you think it would be done.

Please don't reply to me I don't like sausages

Re: Sky HDR

@da1e7150, not sure what you mean. My point is a £30 firestick outperforms a mini any day of the week. 4 years  after launch and minis can only deliver SD and HD.

The UHD Firestick is £49.99 at the moment. The £39.99 one is SD and HD only...
