Unless they intend to broadcast HD HDR which is very rare. There was a Star Trek in 1080 HDR a couple of years ago, but that's the only HD HDR content I'm aware of.

BT Sport have broadcast a few games in 1080 HDR via their app, it wasn't great compared to the normal 4K feed to be honest.

The 4K HDR stream via the app on the Xbox was spot on.

Whether it be HD HDR or UHD HDR, the impact is far bigger on either with the inclusion of HDR. Even watching Netflix via an iPad, which peaks out at HD HDR, the difference is clear to see.

You get the same HDR outcome via either HD or UHD though, but obviously one has less overall pixels than the other in terms of resolution.

Re: Sky HDR

As much as  as I do really enjoy Sky q - big fan - I have been a disappointed by its UHD offering since the start and continue to be. That's based on the many streaming services that I use and the obvious difference in picture quality I see. Netflix, amazon prime, Apple and Disney + viewed through my tv smart apps not sky q box are significantly better.

On that basis I do hold out a little hope that this hdr offers the picture quality improvement that moves it up to the standard as these other platforms but also kind of not expecting to remain  disappointed.

Re: Sky HDR

The Forbes article has been updated and apparently all 2tb boxes should be compatible with or without an external power brick, it's only the v1 non uhd 1tb that aren't compatible which is to be expected.

The Forbes article is incorrect. As per the internal Sky information posted on several places around the internet, the v1 boxes will need to be replaced. Sky are working on a process for that, but it's been delayed by the impact of Covid19 on their call centres. Probably explains why HDR is such a soft launch with little advertising or content yet.

So I have the basic sky q 1tb box. This doesn't support uhd, I do however have a uhd TV. Is this box likely to have the hdr feature unlocked or not? Thanks

In short - no, you won't be getting any HDR content on your box.

There are many technical reasons but in a nutshell, HLG was designed to work in conjunction with UHD broadcasts and isn't backwards compatible.

Re: Sky HDR

@Daniel-UK Yes I just been on the phone to Sky and spoke to a very helpful person who informed me the launch this week. You also need a TV that is compatible with HDR - HLG but not HDR10

(Please Note: I am Neurodivergent )

@Super+Anthony  Yes that rules out a lot of TVs over 2 years old and many even more recent projectors.

It also the results are much more dependent on the quality of the TV than HDR

Re: Sky HDR

HDR hasn't even been launch yet the fan is already being peppered into oblivion.

Can't wait to see the meltdown on this forum on the 27th.

Who knew that Gerald Ratner was working for Sky as a PR advisor on their feature launch schedule. The timing couldn’t be worse. Should have waited until at least they had a good supply of boxes to update early adopters who still have V1 boxes and who by definition like to be at the cutting edge of technological change.

Now where is that “Unsubscribe” button so my “Inbox” doesn’t go into meltdown with updates on this thread?🥴

Re: Sky HDR

So what's the big deal @Roger+Peters ? and I'm directing this to both @Roger+Peters  and @Rhonny and others.

This is a Community Forum - here to help members who are raising questions in an inquisitive way. I've been really fed up with some so called "Senior Members" answering posts in a patronising and almost rude manner.  There are others (you will know who I'm referring to).  I've asked before that a set of rules or technical requirements to receive Sky's HDR-HLG is posted and directed to at the top of the Forums - there are plenty of Sky Employees right now reading, so why don't they stop the kind of comment I'm mentioning and help post this list?  It would help most people who are not that familiar with HDR.  That said (tongue in cheek) it would lower the post counts so this may not appeal to the majority of these members who bleet on and on and not provide the help that's needed., not just on these HDR threads but on every thread in the Sky Community.  Is it any wonder that This Community is getting negative press?  I have threatened to leave the Community before but to be honest I do glean good information from time to time after sifting through piles of "cr*p posts" of the type I'm talking about..

Honestly - for example, @Rhonny says in his Bio he's a technical nerd - ok, so time to give some help back in the style and politeness that almost every other Technical Forum out there maintains as I'm sure he asks questions in other forums to gain knowledge.  Don't get me wrong @Rhonny  you do provide help from time to time but on the subject of HDR your are a complete PITA to be honest.

Re: Sky HDR

@rozel

I refer you to my earlier post showing my bullet-pointed stance on HDR. Nothing there is counter to anything others have posted. I am in agreement with things in this thread. I honestly don't see which of my points is getting people riled? I don't have any beef with any of this. This is the second day running where am somehow the bad guy and I just cannot see the posts that are leading to this.

So I would respectfully ask you stop targeting me.
