Re: Sky HDR

I prefer Chromecast devices myself. It's just so easy casting from a phone or tablet app.

@da1e7150, not sure what you mean. My point is a £30 firestick outperforms a mini any day of the week. 4 years  after launch and minis can only deliver SD and HD.

The UHD Firestick is £49.99 at the moment. The £39.99 one is SD and HD only...

I purchased mine in February 2020 £15.00 less than what it is now the Firestick  Voice remote works well with the Sky Soundbox and if you ask Alexa nicely she will turn it on and off instead of using the Soundbox remote

@JOHNGALLEY  sadly your wrong again

Most of "b" is a carryover from "a" and "_" versions of 2.0, with some refinements, most notably Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG). This is a different way to transmit HDR content. For a deep dive, one of the co-creators is the BBC and it's got a well-written PDF Q&A

For now, though, don't worry about it. There's not much support for HLG yet. The only reason 2.0b is worth mentioning is it's being implemented on 2017 TVs instead of HDMI 2.1. Which brings us to…

 Irrelevant mention of 2017 TVs is due to information being copied and pasted from this article https://www.cnet.com/how-to/what-is-hdmi-2-0b/

@Paulonthetelly  you do realise your Sticks and boxes are streaming directly from the internet. The mini box gets all the sky programs from streaming from main box to mini. If it was a viable option don't you think it would be done.

 Please don't reply to me I don't like sausages

What's your point about streaming?

Re: Sky HDR

this maybe not the correct area to ask this question but what's the difference between the 2tb SkyQ boxes.

Black box with silver trim to all black box?

is it just cosmetic changes or is there an actual difference.

Re: Sky HDR

@hudsonk

Silver trim - v1 (direct power lead) and v2 (power lead with power brick/adaptor)

All black - v3

Only v2 and v3 support HDR (as long as your TV does too).

Not sure what other difference, but v3 will certainly have the latest spec.

Hi @hudsonk   The specifications can be found here Note the new 2TB box is the same spec as the 1TB UHD box.

Re: Sky HDR

I had a complete mare with Sky, they replaced my dying v2 2TB box with a 1TB non UHD box by accident that still had recordings and a wifi network on it. It died the same day but it took two days to replace it, so Sky gave me a brand new 2TB v3 box instead,.

 The menu is the same obviously but its faster, no stuttering going though the menus at all, and the picture seems less over saturated (Sony AF8 OLED)  this could be my eyes but it seems more natural with no change in picture settings and it is very quiet to my ears. No clonking unlike like the V2 which didnt really bother me tbh, so not a huge difference but it  runs faster, not a placebo as I have had it four days now, its also runs cool without the power brick too.

 If you have a good v2 though that's a great box as I see it really. People should not be trying to get a v3 for HDR reasoning, if anyone is of course.

Damned if you do, damned if you dont

@Paulonthetelly  the minis won't ever do uhd as the bandwidth needed would be too great I can't even stream 4k from my phone to the TV and that's 5G

There's plenty of bandwidth available to stream 4K to a mini because broadcast UHD tops out at around 45 Mbps, but the issue is two-fold.

1. The chipset in the mini only supports HD

2. The chipset in the main Q box (V1, V2 and possibly V3)  can only stream HD to external devices.

@Paulonthetelly  I'm not sure who you mean.  Surely not the guy who copies and pastes other people's posts as his own
