I suspect Sky shouldn't bother taking back the obsolete boxes because they're obsolete.

Sky will always seek to take old Q boxes back because apart from any intrinsic value the components may have, and the companies obligations under the WEEE Directive, they won't want a bogus secondhand market developing where misguided subscribers sell v1 boxes on to unwitting punters who don't realise the hardware is useless by itself as Sky won't permit its activation.  This is actually a significant obstacle to any swapout plan carried out by post or courier, as return rates under such schemes can be pretty poor.

Re: Sky HDR

Is there any news on the upgrade program for loyal customers yet?

Re: Sky HDR

Sky swapped my V1 box for a V3 yesterday after a fault. Not sure if it's the luck of the draw to which box you get though.

Re: Sky HDR

@rogon  Sky tell us anything. I have experience of this myself. A few months ago I had a senior techie tell me that HDR makes very little difference 😲

@Cooper8181 it should be like for like but if the engineer doesn't have any V1 boxes then they have to use a later model

Re: Sky HDR

@GreenLantern, have you seen the lemurs documentary , what a joke and that's the future. I will stick to Filthy Rich on Netflix in UHD

95 pages all over a bit of monkey 🐒  business.

Re: Sky HDR

@Piesarus , strictly for the record they are primates and independent to monkeys and apes. If only you had HDR you would be able to spot the difference

Re: Sky HDR

@Paulonthetelly  I have got SkyQ HDR thanks. Lemur business didn't sound right so changed it to monkey. I did know the difference BTW.

Re: Sky HDR

@Paulonthetelly  Yes I have. On my Samsung Q90 in HLG it's stunning. The difference between it and "ordinary" UHD is huge

Re: Sky HDR

When they swapped out my faulty box I went from a V2 box with external power supply to a V1 that plugged striaght in. So how can sky say they swap like for like.

@Vectisman Sky have started like for like to stop everyone with s V1 reporting a problem when there isn't a problem just to get a V2 or V3 box, now the policy us like got like unless they don't have the same model then I'm guessing it will need to a higher model.

I doubt they will now change a V2 box to a V1 although you never know. If they did, that would be scandalous

Re: Sky HDR

@arnsbrae

But they were previously offering 1tb boxes even though UHD was available, but the boxes didn't support it?
I never heard anyone say that the old 1tb box was obsolete for the last 3 years until they got round to producing an UHD compliant version.
Remember there are still people out there that think SD is state of the art and worth watching even in 2020!

Re: Sky HDR

I've just tried Lemur and the HDR is very disappointing, the picture is dark and looks a lifeless to me.

The HDR impact i get from 4K blu-ray and Netflix/Amazon are lightyears better.

My TV is the Sony KD55XE9305, its definitely on HDR HLG when viewing Lemur on sky.

Anyone else in a similar boat?
