Sky Glass and new contract

Hi everyone

This morning I switched from my existing Sky HD to a new Sky Q, therefore signed on for a new 18 months contract. The engineer was booked to come on Satyrday 13th November.  After I put the phone down I found out about Sky Glass.

My partner went into a Sky shop and unfortunately he couldn't order the TV today because there was an orde ron my account which I presume was the engineer visit and the Sky Q box.

I rang Sky again just now and asked to cancel the Sky Q box and engineer visit so my partner could go into the shop tomorrow and order the Sky Glass.

My questions is: if I've just tied into this new package (contract) for the next 18 months, would that affect the Sky Glass order? I believe that you need to add in a new package when ordering the TV, but as I've just tied into a new contact, will the new contract be overriden by the Sky Glass contract and package?

The advsier was unable to give me any information on my query and was told that if I wanted to cancel the new package I would have to pay a month or so extra (not sure what that meant??)

I hope this makes sense.

Thank you in advance.

Yoanna

@Yoanna  No you have 31 days to cancel anyway, if you have been able to cancel then no contract exists and you should be able to order Glass.  Glass TV subs are 31 day rolling contracts, excpet BT sport which is an 18 month minimum term.

Even if they said you couldn't cancel if/when you orfder Glass it overrides your Q subs anyway.

If you're in the UK, we offer an enhanced cooling off period of 31 days, instead of the 14 days that's legally required. If you're in the ROI, the cooling off period is 14 days.

That means you have the right to cancel your order for TV services and any related equipment, any time up to 31 days (or 14 days if you're in the ROI) from the later of:

  • (i) delivery;
  • (ii) installation; or
  • (iii) confirmation in writing of the relevant terms and conditions for that product (which includes making the terms and conditions available to you in

If you were happy with Sky+HD then right now it's probably more advisable to switch to Sky Q than Sky Glass.

Make sure you research exactly what you're getting with Glass. Just because it's new doesn't necessarily mean it's better or will provide you with the TV service you've been used to with Sky HD.

Re: Sky Glass and new contract

When I rang to cnacel I just wanted to revert back to my old contract and package therefore making easier to order the Sky Glass (I think?) - I am worried that my partner will travel to the Sky shop again tomorrow and be told that we can't get it becuse of the contract I agreed to today.

Re: Sky Glass and new contract

@fizzdisco the HD one we have is actually a refurbed one and we struggled to get Sky Q because at the time when we moved into the property (3 years ago) it was a building site and there was an issue with the dish or something so we just got a refurbed box (old one broke down) so we just kept it until now.

We really want it because a month ago our TV broke so need a new TV anyways and now we are moving into a different part of the building and dont want the faff with the dish and drilling everywhere, presume it will look tidier withouth all the extra bits.

It could work for you then. Just make sure you have good broadband in the new part of the building. Sky Glass will be pretty useless without it.

Re: Sky Glass and new contract

@Yoanna There's no reason you can't cancel the Q order and go back to HD+, however to get Glass then I think you're going to have to be patient until Sky have fully cancelled the Q order. Only the agents can help you there.

Re: Sky Glass and new contract

Spent another 40 minutes on the phone with Sky and was tld that there will  be no issue switching - but that they will conduct a credit check on my account, which I did not know about before.

Thanks for your help guys.

Yes for the TV as your requesting credit over 24/48 months, unless you opt to purchase upfront.

Re: Sky Glass and new contract

Think some are getting confused.

sky broadband = 18 month contract.

Tv package = 31 day contract.
