Sky Glass. Doesn’t do what it says on the tin!!!

So. I had my new 55inch Sky Glass delivered a few months ago and I love the screen and especially love the Dolby Atmos (check out Dune at full volume!)

However and a very big however, fundamentally it is over sold and fails to deliver in a number of areas which are used as key selling features.

1. Add to your playlist and watch anytime:

What nonsense. As a fan of F1 if I miss the start of a race and want to watch later in the day, I can't. I even turned on the 'highlights' this weekend and instantly went to the presenters talking about the result. As far as I was lead to believe I get the same functionality as Sky Q without the hard drive as 'whatever you add to your playlist can be watched at your convenience'. What utter rubbish

2. Skip the ads.
Cobblers.

3. Always connected.
Tosh. Regularly turn on to no internet (yes I have altered the power save settings as advised). My screen is built into the wall so really difficult for me to disconnect the power to reset

4. Access apps

ITV hub constantly freezes/crashes and won't reset until power is disconnected.

5. Watch live programmes from the start

Hit and miss. Some do some don't. You have to open the BBC and ITV hubs to watch live tv from the start

Where do I go from here? I'm over the cancellation period and really want it to do what I expected. I've taken the dish feeds from other rooms but kept the main lounge feed as I can't see any other option than to swap back to Sky Q or buy a hard disk recorder. That really defeats the purpose of Sky Glass

Early adopter hassles? Will it improve with future upgrades? Or am I being a mug!!

What makes matters worse is that my wife was worried about getting it. I gave her assurance that she wouldn't lose any functionality. Now my wotsits are on the chopping block.

Any tips on how to overcome issues or how to cross the Berlin Wall type barrier Sky have in place to get answers would be appreciated.

Even better would be for Sky to fess up and be clear about current issues and future solutions.

cheers

The 'cancellation period' is the statutory right to reject under consumer legislation: after that you still have the ongoing protection of being able to argue against one or more of the 'three principles':

1. Satisfactory quality – your goods shouldn’t be faulty or damaged, and of at least satisfactory quality.

2. Fit for purpose – you should be able to use it for the purpose they were supplied for.

3. As described – your goods or service must match the description, model or sample shown when you bought it.

From reading your post it should be entirely reasonable for you to argue that you believe Glass as it stands (even after firmware updates) fails to meet all three of those tests, and as such Sky should provide adequate remedy, which could presumably include reversion to Q on terms no worse than you had before.  They then get to decide how to respond.

If you like the TV you can keep it but stop the TV service and go back to Q at anytime its a rolling months contract. Loads of people have done so and got a decent deal you will start a new 18 month contract for Q. If you want to get shot of the TV as well give Sky a call as I suspect they wont be too hard to convince that you want to reject the whole thing.

Re: Sky Glass. Doesn’t do what it says on the tin!!!

I totally agree with you and also have to issue of promising the wife it will be as good if not better than Q. I have also changed the the living room layout decorated in such a way that we could not go back to a wired box without trashing the place. Not to mention having removed the dish and cabling.

We also get very frustrated that when you watch a programme on one TV and then go to watch on another it doesn't store where you were up to and then you have to forward to get to the right position.

When I phone Sky they act as if it's down to us not understanding the product we bought.  No way! It's sold as the next generation and an upgrade to Sky Q. It should have (and I believe was intended by Sky to have) enhanced functionality to previous products as all previous gene ration Sky products have done.

As I say we're it not for the cost to revert back I would drop Glass in an instant. In fact I'd drop Sky who have no regard for their customers whatsoever and simply hide the mistakes they have made.
