Re: Sky Glass Delivered

First Impressions -- Wow!!!!

it's important to mention that our previous set up was 55" Sharp Aquous with standard TV sound.
we had no line of sight for a Sky dish so have no Sky for the last three years.

We are really happy with our new 65" Sky Glass picture quality is great and it's amazing having all the app details in one place. UI has been easy to get the hang of.

We live in a rural area with slow broadband 39 mbps average but we've been streaming TV since we moved here and never had any real problems.

We did opt not to get a puck because we did think it might struggle but no hint of any issues with kids on devices. Teenager on his Xbox and husband working from home today on laptop.

This is our experience watching a movie this afternoon, it might change this evening when the network gets busy but I'll give another update in a couple of days.

One negative is Sky search didn't  pick up purchased content from Prime.

Re: Sky Glass Delivered

Only two pucks can be used with 1 Glass?

Is that true? If so I have def missed that and it strengthens my decision of not to change from Q

As much as I wanted 4k around the house, the fact I thought I could use more devices than mini Qs was as much of a reason for looking

I think you can only stream simultaneously to a maximum of two pucks if you have only one Glass TV.

No such limit has ever been advised.  The TVs don't 'serve' pucks as in a Sky Q 'main box to mini boxes' topology.

Watching UHD content on glass, my Deco app  showed a peak of 83MBPs for the Glass connection!

Re: Sky Glass Delivered

@LynneD6983 just goes to show a stable internet connection is the most important thing and if anyone was having issues streaming before buying glass that won't change. Sensible approach with the pucks given your situation

Maybe not in so many words but Sky has definitely stated that the max number of pucks per household is 6 - and only then with three Glass TVs also installed. So it looks like you have to stump up for more TVs if you want to be a bandwidth hog.

Wow! Maybe Glass hogs whatever bandwidth it can find, meaning less buffering at the start of a stream?

I recorded something earlier for my TV well I added it to my playlist and when I went to watch it back it hooks into ITV hub. this is a pain as it's not proper HD and you have to mess about skipping through the multitude of adverts. I don't really know how to explain it but it's not like when I had sky years ago in it recorded the live broadcast it's looking into apps all the time.

This has been reported by a couple of users. My guess is that Sky Glass is prioritising the catchup service, in this case ITV Hub, over your recording request. So the content is retrieved from the relevant catchup app, in this case the ITV Hub. You can pay £3.99 a month to ITV to remove the adverts.

Maybe other Glass users can confirm this theory, or indicate how you can retrieve the recording instead of from the ITV Hub.

Re: Sky Glass Delivered

Isn't it weird how current technology knows it's being replaced?!

Since ordering glass my sky Q box keeps failing. It will go to a black screen but nothing plays. Not even recorded shows play. I have to keep taking the plug out to reset it. Roll on glass tomorrow.

Re: Sky Glass Delivered

Well I did intend on posting more updated but to be honest I've been in a bit of an update hell since setting it up.

It seems to want\need to update, but it get's about 85% of the way then fails. I can access the UI and look around, but nothing plays, so far not the best but teething issues are expected. I did try out some Dolby Vision\Atmos content via the AppleTV and I have been very impressed with both the picture and audio quality!

I've just factory reset the TV, and trying again - hopefully more success this time around!

I attached to the wall using the existing wall mount from the previous TV, nice and easy to do too (apart from the weight on the thing!)IMG_1280.jpeg

Of course. The likes of ITV, ch4, etc. are likely seeing an exodus of advertisers onto other platforms, where adverts can't be completely skipped.
