Re: Sky Glass Delivered

After being in a queue for an hour, a lovely lady told me they are being inundated with calls. She has been waiting for over 40 mins from previous calls for the answer to come through from those in the know. Looks like someone has made a boo boo and a lot of work for Sky glass tonight. It's sent in error and even those who have had it delivered already have been sent it. She told me it's going to be a long night. Hopefully they are putting a recorded message on the phone system.

I would say ignore the text but if you want to be sure and call them, you may be in for a long wait.

Re: Sky Glass Delivered

Apologies if I missed the answer to this as catching up to all the content on here.

Is this right? Disney + does not work with the Dolby Atmos that the TV with UHD package supports?

I assume Netflix will work with it as long as your paying the extra for the UHD Netflix subscription otherwise there would be outrage!

Re: Sky Glass Delivered

@Jadeypup I was giving an update on the text that some people, including myself, had saying to sign the credit agreement or your order will be cancelled. It's been sent in error and causing Sky a barrage of phone calls. This was in reply to my previous message where I'd mentioned receiving it.

I recorded something earlier for my TV well I added it to my playlist and when I went to watch it back it hooks into ITV hub. this is a pain as it's not proper HD and you have to mess about skipping through the multitude of adverts. I don't really know how to explain it but it's not like when I had sky years ago in it recorded the live broadcast it's looking into apps all the time.

This has been reported by a couple of users. My guess is that Sky Glass is prioritising the catchup service, in this case ITV Hub, over your recording request. So the content is retrieved from the relevant catchup app, in this case the ITV Hub. You can pay £3.99 a month to ITV to remove the adverts.

Maybe other Glass users can confirm this theory, or indicate how you can retrieve the recording instead of from the ITV Hub.

Yes it does sound that way, possibly to save on storage space... For me thats quite a big negative for this service. Over in the states Youtube TV used to do this but after lots of complaints I believe they now offer both the 'recorded'  show (where adverts can be skipped) and the OD showings (shorter but with adverts that can't be skipped).

I wonder if that affects "recordings" from other channels like ch4 and ch5 that have their own catchup apps?

Sky Twitter help were advising before launch that when you add something to 'Record', the system cleverly decides whether it needs to record it or if it can be retrieved from Catch Up. So, it seems that this is the case.

My query would be if the Catch Up episode had an expiry date of less than 12 months.

Re: Sky Glass Delivered

@oj01 question is if I start recording something halfway through when I come to watch it will it start from where I left off?

  • Maybe not in so many words but Sky has definitely stated that the max number of pucks per household is 6 - and only then with three Glass TVs also installed. So it looks like you have to stump up for more TVs if you want to be a bandwidth hog.

I don't think that's correct. Yes, you can have 3 Glass TVs (well you can't yet) and 6 Pucks, but there is no restrictions on the ratio. So you can have 1 TV and 6 Pucks, all running simultaneously.

@matty147 I strongly suspect you'll get the whole thing recorded and it'll start at the start. On the whole, this is an improvement (if you've missed the start of something on satellite you can't then record the start unless it's on Catch Up), but if you want to record the last 20 minutes of a day's Test Cricket, you'll still record the whole day's play.

Re: Sky Glass Delivered

@oj01 so you'd have to find where you left the programme, that's not great but not a deal breaker.

It seems that this is similar to what I am experiencing with any BBC programmes I've added in to the Playlist. When you start watching it takes you to BBC iPlayer which is annoying me more than it probably should do lol. It's probably just a bit of a culture shock after being used to recorded BBC programmes on Sky Q not being played back on iPlayer,  and might get used to it I guess, but at the moment I preferred the old Sky Q way.

On the subject of Playlist, I would have liked to have seen something in the TV Guide that let you know that a programme that you have previously added to your Playlist is still a future event, perhaps a "P" (to signify Playlist)  which could act  in a similar way to the red R that signified you had set a programme up to be recorded in the future on Sky Q. And then unless I'm missing something when you look at your Playlist, any programmes that  you have added but have not been broadcast yet seem to be mixed in with programmes that have already passed their broadcast time and are ready to watch. I guess what I'm saying is it would be nice to have something like the Q method of distinguishing programmes that had already been recorded from those that are scheduled and still to be broadcast.
