Re: Settings to configure alternative router to work with Sky Fibre / DHCP Option 61
Ha, I went overkill... from a 1921 ISR about 18 months ago-ish to a 'gifted' 4321 ISR, VDSL NIM and 8 port POE NIM installed to power all my Arubas etc. 'it's a beast! Straight out the jack, none of the BT boxes / Sky kit in the mix.
My challenge will be when they go FttP so I can try to drop the fibre straight in to it on a gbic.... a challenge 🙂

Here's my settings, didn't have to go into as much detail as previous poster, just used the same generic details someone had posted previously. Hope this helps someone. This symbol is very important in the password --> |

Good point @stevieb3 you need a pipe symbol between the user name and password fields. These can be difficult to find on some keyboards but is often the shift option on the backslash key. See here

Re: Settings to configure alternative router to work with Sky Fibre / DHCP Option 61
Many years ago (1999 and after) I had a Freeserve (which later became Wanadoo and then Orange Home UK) dialup connection and then a rather slow ADSL connection using the green 'frog' USB device. It used a login with an @ sign as well as a password to authenticate the broadband connection. I suppose they used MER 61.
I have ordered a TP-Link extender. Do you think it is worth replacing my Sky Q hub with the TP-Link AC-2100? I do not have Sky TV owing to trees blocking line of sight.

The login I referred to was for ADSL using PPPoE.

I suppose you need that specific username and password, not some similar random entries. Some websites say you need to use credentials based on the MAC address of your modem.

These are the generic settings I used to set my VR2100 up: -
4. Open a browser window and navigate to http://192.168.1.1.
5. The TP-Link will ask you to set an admin password – make sure you use something secure, as Password123 ain’t gonna cut it!
6. Once in, the TP-Link setup wizard will start: Input your location and time zone. Click Next. Select Sky(MER)_VDSL from the ISP list. Make sure it’s this one, as this is Sky fibre. The other Sky option in the list is for Sky Broadband and will not work for fibre connections. Internet connection type In the username field, enter abcdefgh@skydsl In the password field, enter 1234567890abcdef
Click Next, then set up your wireless network how you see fit.

Re: Settings to configure alternative router to work with Sky Fibre / DHCP Option 61
Sorry to bump but this thread has really caught my attention!
I asked previously about setting up unifi at home over Sky Q router. things seem to have progressed a fair bit.
could someone offer me som further advise please?
I want to purchase a UDM Pro, they now seem to come with Option 61 support built in which is great.
Do I need to buy a DSL modem to replace my Sky Q hub and then plug the unifi switch directly into this modem and away we go? head to unifi setup ad enter the generic usrname and password details in DHCP option 61 on the Unifi controller?
Is a modem 100% required? If so any reccomendations? Did everyoens Sky Q boxes still perfrom correctly?
Thanks

Re: Settings to configure alternative router to work with Sky Fibre / DHCP Option 61
Hi,
I Have FTTP through Sky, my UDM Pro is connected directly to my ONT, no need for a modem in between, just connected to the WAN port.
I've posted a screenshot on this thread with the username/password I've used with option 61, which connects fine for me, this is entered after accessing the UniFi network settings, making sure to switch the User Interface to classic mode.
Sky q boxes all work fine, connected to my UniFi access points, hoping to have them all hard wired back to my switch at some point, only have one done so far.
hope this helps

Perfect! thanks for that mate - I think I am gong to actually hold off on the UDM Pro for now. Pricing and I want to get my line in moved so I can actually mount it somewhere. So I have bookmarked this thread!
I only get FTTC which is annoying, so might hold of to FTTP until I go full Unifi.
As I have changed I am tempted by a Vigor 130 moden and a Asus Router for now to get me where I need to (in terms of needing to port forward) then go big when I can do it proeprly.
Is the ONT something that could replace th Vigor? Or do I need to keep the Vigor if I am now going Asus?

ONT stands for 'Optical Network Terminator': it's only relevant for FTTP as it just has an fibre-optic connection (green LC socket) on the WAN side with no VDSL modem, and so cannot carry WAN traffic over copper (G.fast/FTTC/ADSL).
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2
