BTW You may get slightly better resolution by setting the SKY Q box resolution to 1080p

Main Menu -> Settings -> Setup ->  Audio Visual -> Picture Resolution

Try both 1080p and 1080i and see which one looks best for you

Obviously we don't know if either your TV or SKY box is faulty but I have just looked a Footbal game on my 32" Sony HD TV and saw a noticeble difference between the SD channel & the HD channel.

The SD was watchable but the HD was better (for me) - as your TV is larger I think you wiould notice a difference but only you can decide if it is worth upgrading to add the HD add on

Re: Poor picture quality

@nigea99 so the only way I can upgrade the picture is to buy the hd package?

Hi @Gerry+Murtagh

As I mentioned earlier you MAY get a slightly better picture if you change the SKY Q box resolution to 1080p  but realistically yes the most noticeable differnce would be to add the HD package - obvioulsy there is an ongong cost.

I think you can take out the HD package on a rolling basis so if you don't find it gives what you want I think you should be able to cancel (although I think there is minimim cancellation period of a month) It may be different in Ireland (Do note, however, cancellation of the add on does mean calling SKY though)

You probably need to call to discuss

Unsure of costs but basically if you want a better picture then you need to add on the HD package to your Sky and BT sports @Gerry+Murtagh In my opinion it's worth the extra money.

Re: Poor picture quality

@Gerry+Murtagh  You could try logging in to your account on the sky website - try looking under upgrades.

should be easy to

a) find out how much for sky sports HD and

b) you may be able to upgrade online

not sure if the same applies to BT Sports HD but it may well do

@Gerry+Murtagh

The HD package for ROI is €8 Euros per month or the UHD + HD is €12 Euros per month

Re: Poor picture quality

It's nothing to do with settings, tv make/model, it's common knowledge that sky bitrate on HD - and recently Ultra HD is pretty poor. In fact I'm have trouble telling the difference between the two, especially on live football!

The guy is trying to play back a 576i source at 2160p and you say it's got nothing to do with settings? Well that's true, there's no setting that could fix that, he needs to pay for HD (or UHD if the TV supported it) but it's also nothing to do with HD bitrate.

And referring to some earlier posts - I like how 1080i has now become synonymous with "not upscaled" SD but actually that is still the resolution of HD broadcasts.

Don't know what your issue is, but you obviously have a specific problem with something in your setup.  The difference between SD & HD, and HD & UHD live football is like night & day in both cases!

I am just another Sky customer!

@nonnie1

What size is your TV and how far do you sit from it?

Re: Poor picture quality

55" and approx 2.5mtrs away - if that makes any difference..?

Whilst some may say it may do, then it is the significant drop off I have noticed over the last few weeks, this has not always been an issue
