Watching football on sky Q my second TV. The picture is very poor when long shots are on, which is most of the time.
BT and BBC are acceptable. So it's not the TV. I'm HD also. Yellow shirts are the worst. Very disappointed as I forked out for an ultra HD Panasonic.

It would like add my concerns as to the picture quality on Sky Sports Football/PL.
Sorry, but I thought I was subscribing to HD channels?
I have the 1 TB Sky Q box. I fully concur with those who complain about the PQ of the general shots. The Sky logo's are razor sharp as you would expect. The in studio shots are great. But get outside and and that quality soon falls away. It's rubbish.
My Sony TV is standard hi def. The PQ on the other channels is absolutely fine. In fact the pics coming all the way from the IPL cricket tournament are better that the football. How can that be? Surely it has to be that some of the cameras being used on the PL are not up to scratch.
We have a term in sound recording. Rubbish in, and you get rubbish out. So changing suppliers would be futile if everyone is using the same feed from the grounds.
Disappointed and frustrated.

I experienced all of the same problems as you have described above, however changing suppliers has actually been the way forward for me. The sky sports HD picture through BT vision is far superior to Sky.
There is no doubt that sky has purposely compressed the HD picture to make the UHD acceptable.

PQ is appalling. Last night the Burnley game as a per usual and now the Masters.
Absolutley awful picture on the mini box which is supposed to be HD.
Can't be bothered to go-and watch it downstairs so I've put Sky Go on.
We should all get a 50% discount if they can't provide sufficient quality. Hardly SD standard.

Are you watching part of the red button coverage - or main feed ?
I am watchingthe main feed on a main box and have a very good HD picture on a 55" OLED

No I'm watching it off mini box.
Tbf it has improved since I've put it back on but it's like the football.
Close up is fine distance is blurred.
You will be fine off your main box. I had to change to SkyQ so on my main box HD was decent. It's never 4K quality tho.
I'm talking about a standard HD pic on a mini box . Just had a pic of Tiger, Ousthousin walking off green before adverts and absolutely shocking. Blurred as hell!

Maybe your mini is faulty or your set up on your TV not quite right.
I only have a 32" (full HD though) connected to my mini but I am very happy with the image on it also for the golf

I don't buy into the faulty Sky Q box argument myself. When it's good, it's very, very good, even with the mainstream Sky channels. I personally don't have any complaints. The problems seem to start only on their live sports coverage. So I think for customers to focus on the box itself may prove to be a waste of time. My only issue with the box is the long winded operation of doing simple things like deleting recordings, but that's an argument for elsewhere.
However, I do feel that it's incumbent on Sky to deliver on the HD tag that is advertised and that people pay good money for. Btw, I'm not a UHD customer, and not likely to be. I just want Sky to fully deliver on what they advertise.

Wasnt it the same issue last year with the masters. Poor quality feed that sky carried from the source.

IIRC The coverage was quite variable last year - some coverage was in HD and OK but other coverage seemed lacking - some of the inserts from the main featured players & red button coverage being the poorer coverage I think.
Although I have not viewed much on the Red Button this year I have found all the main coverage to be absolutely fine in HD & the little RB coverage I have watched good also this year (unlike the variable quality of last year)

Likely to be on a smaller screen with a mini @Invisiblename ?
The larger the screen the more noticeable the issue is with the Golf at the moment.

I don't think NTSC to PAL conversions are an issue these days
NTSC Quality in particular has moved on from the Never Twice the Same Color days 🙂

You can have the best delivery system in the world, but unless those who are providing the source pictures are of the same quality, it's wasted. I foolishly thought Sky would be involved in both capturing and delivering the pictures to our screens, at least for the jewel in the crown that is the PL.
