Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Forget about the result this Ryder Cup has been ruined by Sky Q both the main box and mini box have pixelated and frozen throughout !! I had months and months of problems (sound dropping, system freezing and system shutting down) at the very beginning following upgrading from Sky HD to Sky Q but those problems were eventually sorted after a few engineering visits and I was given account credit for which I was very grateful and even contacted some top people at sky to pass on my thanks and I thought that would be the end of any problems.............how wrong I was!! it is ridiculous how many people are experiencing problems.

@Blackie1892 i am it's so annoying and unfair to be paying for sky and getting this service

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else but our Sky Q boxes have rolled back from 170 to 160!

I only checked when I noticed the episode listings under the programme stack had returned to being vertical instead of horizontal and of course pixelation is now back in play.

@Anthonyh1976Yes Sky has rolled back to Q160 on some boxes, I don't know what the problem was with Q170 and these particular boxes but no doubt they will be back to Q170 once the problem is fixed.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Hi

I had one mini box that would not upgrade to Q170 although every thing else had.

Box replaced and upgraded straight away.
I do believe there is different firmware or hardware in these boxes because some customers have no problems at all and others have lots.
My two sons have SkyQ both different setups one hardwired and Bt broadband other Sky and WiFi  neither have a problem.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

After rebooting the router and both boxes months ago, the 1.70 update was fine, recordings were perfect, not a single issue, live TV still had some (very) slight pixelation, but really not that bad..now the 1.80 update is here, and pixelation is back on recordings 🤬 unbelievable!

Should add, the pixelation on live TV on 1.70 was only a small strip on the picture and would clear quickly, plus it happened very infrequently. The pixelation on recordings now on 1.80 is full screen, then it smears across the screen as it tries to catch up with itself, taking a couple of seconds, and it's happened four times in the past hour and a half.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

If the pixelation comes back when my skyQ upgrades to Q180 I will be reopening my CEO complaint and expecting compensation.  It's been really good without a single problem  since Q170.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

All of my boxes are now 180 and the pixelation seems to have been resolved.

I had recordings that would pixelate every time we watched them but they are now fine.

fingers crossed they don't roll it all back again!

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Really good it seems sky may have eventually sorted issue but im afraid to say after over a year putting up with sub standard service i have decided to leave sky.  I have been with them for over 22 years and until approx 18 months ago I had no issues received good service. But the continuall ringing up, complaining, going thtough the same story, getting different storys from advisors,  numerous hardware and software mods, oh and a few wasted engineer visits enough is enough. I only hope freeview play is up to it.... lol....

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Indeed, after almost two years of pixellation mayhem - and (like thousands of others) being made to jump through hoops by a corporation seemingly intent on blaming their customers for Sky's own technical failings - my SkyQ picture was finally cured by the Q170 software update…and thankfully not harmed by Q180.

How many billions of customer man-hours were wasted by Sky as they continued to insist that the problems were caused by local issues? How many people waited in all day, taking time off work, to see Sky's engineers once, twice, multiple times as this charade was played out?

How many millions of Sky's own man-hours were wasted in perpetuating this myth?

How many millions of customers' hard-earned cash were wasted on following Sky's disingenuous advice to replace third party hardware, and on countless unnecessary phone calls? And how many millions of Sky shareholders' cash were wasted on replacing Sky's own boxes and cables?

Apart from exceptional instances where temporary pixellation was actually caused by a Sky affiliate/broadcaster, all of the long term pixellation problems were fixed by Sky's three most recent software updates.

In other words, this whole mess was caused by Sky and belatedly cured by Sky without ever admitting to it. Sky presumably preferred to shift the blame onto customers rather than admit to their own technical failings which might cost them even more in refunds and lost customers than the millions wasted on perpetuating the myths.

In finally fixing the problem, Sky have effectively admitted their guilt over a debacle which has cost its customers dear and will now harm the company's credibility for years to come.

Is it a coincidence that both the pixellation meltdown and the Glass launch debacle happened on Comcast's watch? Would Sky have handled it differently if they were still a listed UK company with a share price to protect and under FSA standards of corporate governance?

Literally hundreds of hours of my own life have been wasted on the wild goose chase that Sky forced us into on false pretences. They can't give me that time back but they should be made to pay considerable compensation to the many customers whose lives they have shortened.

And they should change their ways. But instead, the same reluctance to admit to their faults is now being perpetuated with Glass - a service which for many has failed to live up to its hype… and products, such as the puck, which are evidently not fit for purpose.

With these failings apparently running through its corporate veins, Sky is heading for a mighty fall as it struggles to keep customers in the new streaming age.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Watched the football last night, live, and had zero issues in the two hours I was watching.

I did have problems with 1.70 right after the boxes had updated, but after rebooting the router and both boxes the problems all but disappeared, just slight issues watching live TV.

So I've rebooted the router this morning, and I'll do the boxes when I get home, fingers crossed šŸ¤ž

Qtips

i totally agree spent many hours on phone calls, think I had 6 or 7 engineering visits. I paid to upgrade my router but refused to hard wire my mini box as it would be such a difficult and unsightly job.,  One engineer accused me of messing with my system when I pointed out that I was a retired network and data engineer and had  probably forgot more than she knew. Apart from that visit the engineers at the sharp end were excellent and really knew it was a software problem.  As you have said if Sky had admitted there was a problem with software and reduced my payments until fixed I may have been a happier customer. My boxes are still on Q170 did you say Q180 is still ok.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I've had 180 for over a week and I haven't noticed any pixelation.

I have had a couple of box crashes though and some of the streaming apps like discovery+ fail to start streaming occasionally resulting in a crash.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I have a version 1 box and was rolled back from 170 to 160. I have now moved onto 180 and all the pixellation issues that I've had for over a year have all gone!

ITV always seemed to suffer the worst, but since both the mini and the main boxes moved to 180 everything has been back to normal. It seems (although this may just be rose tinted spectacles) that the clarity of the image from the mini box has improved too. Maybe a higher bit rate?

All hard wired with gigabit ethernet as we have always been.
