Moving home sky+ to skyQ..weaker broadband

Hi

I currently have Multiroom with 2 sky+ boxes and 77mbps broadband. I am moving to a new home, so I am guessing I cant take my 2 sky+ Boxes with me, and use them? The new house does not have a dish installed at the moment, can i choose where the dish goes within reason?

The new broadband speed is 10mbps, will this affect my viewing experience and multiroom experience?

I know downloads will be slower, but more concerened about buffering etc?

Any help or advice will be much appreciated, thank you 😊

@stephenmallon  If you already have Sky + why can't you take them with you?  They are yours to keep, you will need need a new dish installing for your setup.

Sadly with broadband if the highest speed is 10Mb then that's it.  It won't affect how multiroom work though, only slow down downloads from On Demand etc.

The dish does have to be able to 'see' the satellite cluster which Sky uses, so that typically dictates which aspect of the property it is mounted on.  Sky won't install on a chimney or above two floors high, and there must be safe ladder access, plus a wall robust enough for dish mounting bolts and the ladder safety tether.

Mini boxes get their data from the main Q box, not straight from an internet connection, so broadband speed does not directly affect Multiscreen.  Low speed just means waiting longer before on-demand playback can begin.

No, absolutely not, although Sky would prefer you to do so, and may imply that you should.

@stephenmallon  You're not forced to upgrade to Sky Q if you want to keep what you have.

In the text below there is nothing to state you must upgrade to Q during a home move

Sky at your new home

Want to know if you can get Sky at your new address before getting in touch? Try our tools to check:

Sky Broadband – Choose the package you want and enter your new postcode: https://www.sky.com/broadband

If the broadband package you want, or Sky Q is available at your new home, our experts will go through your options when you get in touch. We’ll work out the best package so you get all the things you love.

Your new property

If your new home doesn’t have a Sky dish installed, we’ll arrange to get you fixed with one and discuss any costs when you get in touch. You need to have permission to install a Sky dish.

Leave your existing dish at your old property, there’s no need to take it with you.

Some properties have a shared dish, for example, Flats. Get in touch with the property management company if you’re not sure. See the Moving to a flat section further down for more information

Sky VIP customers get a new dish installed at no extra cost. New to Sky VIP? It’s our way of saying thanks for being with us. Find out more in our guide.

@stephenmallon  If you were intending to have the UHD package with Sky Q, then you would have issues streaming 4k content at those speeds

@Doc5907

Sky UHD doesn't stream, though: it's either live over the satellite dish or spooled to disk on-demand.

@TimmyBGood  Yes I know, I was referring more to the Apps (Netflix, Disney+ etc) that they may or may not utilise through Sky Q. Admittedly I was not clear on that... 😉

@stephenmallonDo you know anyone where they could show you Q in action, many like it but quite a lot don't, it is very different, If reminders or slow motion are important to you then don't change, also remember recordings are stored in your box so upgrading to Q would mean losing all your existing recordings.

Also all recordings are stored in the main box so if you also have mini boxes (needed if you want to connect more than one TV) all boxes have access to all recordings with no way of showing which recordings belong to which box.

Having said all that I would not go back to +HD but still miss reminders.
