Let’s talk about App updates

So with an imminent software update for the main software, how will the apps update?

Why am I asking, well the BBC iPlayer App has updated on my iPad and it says on the press release that it is rolling out to TV's first and then other platforms. It is much better than the previous version.  ITV have plans for a new hub next year and of course Netflix are always improving their app and Apple TV+ will also get regular updates, Prime sometimes  (but not very often) gets an update and so on...

- will they automatically roll out

- will we need to venture into the reset apps function in the settings (I haven't as yet in case I have to login again into them all), has anyone tried it yet.

Re: Let’s talk about App updates

I've tried the reset app option and apart from saying resetting apps, I don't think it did anything. Good news is I didn't need to sign back in again, but that might not be the case if it actually did update the app.

Re: Let’s talk about App updates

In theory the apps could be updated in the background and not need any intervention from the user! - I am not sure how or when apps will be updated but I imagine this information would be available from teh respective app company ie. All4

@Anonymous On Sky Q the apps are automatically updated with no need to go in and do a reset apps so I would guess it will be along the lines of how it's done on Sky Q

Re: Let’s talk about App updates

How do you actually reset an app please? I've got Radioplayer hanging and can't stop it so need to resest the specific app.

Re: Let’s talk about App updates

@Houghty64  There isn't a way to actually force close an app or clear it's caches etc.

the issue with radio player has been reported by others and seems to be a server side issue so should be fixed soon.

also,

I have escalated this post to the Sky community team.

They shall invite you to a personal chat, look out for an email or blue chat bubble in this forum. (You will need to be logged in)
