So, a lot of TV watched this weekend - live and recorded.

I can only think of one sound dropout, which was watching a movie on the Amazon app.

I must have been visited by the SKY fairies, our box has gone from utterly useless to largely behaving itself.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather there were zero dropouts but I'm not going to chance changing the box when this one seems to have decided to behave itself.

So weird.

Weirdly, mine too. Watched a few recorded HD shows and no drop-outs this weekend.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

Well, I've had drop outs, bad mini box streams and constant mini box disconnections as well as dreadful Wi-fi....so mine's not fixed!

I feel for you @Gridders. That's what's so infuriating about all this - the inconsistency. I fully expect mine to go back to multiple drop-out mode at some point today...

Complaint logged via the number provided here earlier. Very helpful Jennifer answered. Confirmed known problem, spoke with tech guys to get clarity on issues and called back to confirm. On list to be kept updated on solutions. No known workaround at present, working on software update or replacement boxes if needed. No fixed timeline. £50 back on box and bill reduced for 6months.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

Phoned the number and spoke to a helpful guy called Leon. He hadn't heard of this particular issue...🤯 He agreed to upgrade me to the 2tb UHD box as I've had 2 1tb UHD boxes so far. I explained i didn't think this would fix it..... Guess what? It hasn't. Same drop outs as before. Now on my 3rd box. Due a call back Wednesday, will have to see what my options are now..

@Laing1  So, what are the issues that Sky q has with managed switches ?

As explained simply by @GordonTGopher here Answered: Managed versus un-managed Ethernet switches - Sky Community

i understand that networking isn't simple and users could easily mess this up.  But, the response doesn't answer my question of what the technical issues are that sky are concerned about managed switches.  The issue that @GordonTGopher brings up in his response is more about easing Sky's customer support challenges . Just the reason sky won't support if you call up and are using your own router. When i called re my drop outs i had to put the sky router back into the system before i made the call. It was hard wired to the sky router via Ethernet and the sky member of staff i was talking to kept telling me that they couldn't see my sky box and wanted me to connect it via wifi instead. Yet ironically my 3rd party router fixes my dropouts and arguably it is a glorified managed switch, albeit with some extra lan to wan routing capabilities (that's all it does for my sky box).

So guys can you confirm - if we phone Sky because we have this issue, are you guys being offered discount/rebate on your sub? Should we be calling a specific number at Sky or asking to speak to a particular section/team ?

Great to hear about BBC Watchdog taking this seriously. I just hope Sky don't try to frame this as only affecting live soccer as it is much wider than that

It could well be a hardware issue.

Firmware has always been a special type of software. The closest thing to software in these boxes are the apps like netflix and iplayer. But they are specific to Q, they're tested on that platform and they can't be swapped for alternatives. It's a closed, known ecosystem, you can't write anything to run on these boxes and the apps can't be run simultaneously.

So for me, it's all firmware.

Fair comment @CyberFriday  So if your 3rd party router is better than the one supplied by Sky .

It makes sense to use your 3rd party router .

Same as you don't need Sky Broadband to use Sky Q or have I missed the memo.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

@Corum I had 15 months left on my BT contract and left it FOR Sky as the engineers convinced me it was a BR issue with the new box in September.

Its now even WORSE with Sky broadband.

How's my luck? I'll be after compensation
