Well that engineer's visit wasn't great.
Had the tv and ancillaries pulled out of the corner doing a new year caa as blue tidy up.
engineer showed up, and swapped the box.
I had loads left to do, so did a quick connection of cables, checked recordings, paired remote, etc. Everything was grand, so the engineer left.
A couple of hours later I updated the software.
Downloaded Gangs Of Lemur Island for a test...no HDR.Checked settings, etc. and it was then I noticed the hardware version was 32B0!
He has swapped out my V3 for a V1!
I contacted him directly afterwards and the only 32B2 box he had was a 1TB UHD box!
Had to ring customer service this morning to get things sorted. Because it was an engineer visit, it needs to be fixed by another visit. I asked if they can just post me out another, like they did the original, but no joy.
Next free appointment? January 20th!
It also doesn't like being hardwired through a switch for some reason. If I connect direct to the router, I get approx. 92mbps download (stupid v1 box with its 10/100 port!).
But through the switch, I can't get a signal. My tv gets a signal, as does my Shield Pro.
But despite restarting, changing ports, changing cables, I can't get it to connect through the switch.
Fierce annoying.
@Larry+Duggan is it a managed cswitch or unmanaged as Sky have always advised to use an unmanaged switch as Sky Q boxesw dont play nicely with managed switches
I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer
Sky Q 2 TB (Silver)Box, 2 Mini boxes since June 2016, all connected by wifi
Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband
Ultimate on Demand, Q Experience/UHD, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema
LG 49SJ 810 V UHD TV
Google Pixel 10 Pro XL mobile

@Larry+Duggan Be interesting to see if you get the audio drop outs on the V1 box ? From comments on here before they don't suffer it or nothing like as bad?

My internet now seems to shut down on WiFi for short periods?
I have two of the sky boosters which give me perfect WiFi all over the house.(was non existent upstairs before) I'm upstairs now booster in next room on my iPhone ,perfect three bars of signal but while posting this had to come out of page several times 'no internet message' then suddenly all back again 🤔

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
@Rob1999 Haven't noticed any since installing yesterday. Even SWMBO commented earlier that this new box fixed the sound!
Definite drop in picture quality, even without HDR.
"Normal" HD definitely doesn't seem as sharp on this older box.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
@Larry+Duggan Does that box have access to the apps ?
I don't have UHD so that side of the box currently wouldn't be an issue shame HD not so good.

@Rob1999 As for HD being lower quality, could be just my wonky old eyes!

@tsang2000 wrote:@CyberFriday @Have you tried the quick pause/play on live TV to reproduce the problem. I can pretty much guarantee to make sound drops occur when doing this method. Would be interesting if you can recreate the issue this way with your Draytek
@tsang2000 Pausing and starting a live broadcast does reproduce the same drop outs that you can see on the previous clips i posted. However, if you fast forward it until it gets to the point where it catches up with the live broadcast you do get the source banner across the top of the screen (as seen on my previous clips). Of course there is no sound drop out per say because at that point you aren't really listening to a sound track during the fast forward. But, when the banner appears there is no sound for a brief period. And then straight back into live. Does that worry me - no. But, not acceptable when it does that when you are simply watching something.

@The+boy+himself wrote:Sorry, lots of stuff on sky is streamed - anything in UHD OTHER THAN THE SPORTS IS streamed and I have this problem with RECORDED AND STREAMED STUFF.
You can tell it's streamed because you can't play it instantly, it starts to download and when you have enough downloaded, it tells you that you can watch it.
Also, in terms of the problem, we have the three possibilities - the hardware, the firmware and the software. One way of understanding this is to think about your PC - you have the hardware, the PC itself, Windows, which is the firmware and, say, Office, which is the software. The firmware is the stuff that sits between the hardware and the software and makes it possible for the software to work. I'm guessing it's either the firmware or the software that is the problem.
My replacement box comes tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see if there is any change - will probably need a week to be able to see.
@The+boy+himself You are wrong. The End.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
So the issue isnt that managed switches don't work, its that they may require specific settings or configuration, of which Sky will not confirm any requirements. I can understand Sky not wanting to assist anyone setting up their own individual managed switches, but surely they should be able to confirm any specific requirements?
Note, I am running two managed switches at home myself, without any noticable issues with connectivity and 99% of the time achieve full line speed.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
So, a lot of TV watched this weekend - live and recorded.
I can only think of one sound dropout, which was watching a movie on the Amazon app.
I must have been visited by the SKY fairies, our box has gone from utterly useless to largely behaving itself.
Don't get me wrong, I'd rather there were zero dropouts but I'm not going to chance changing the box when this one seems to have decided to behave itself.
So weird.
