Re: HDR programming stops being HDR durinf the programme

Are the films still downloading when this happens or have they been fully dowloaded?

These are sky cinema movies so have to be downloaded via the internet. Speeds/SKYQ performance may have an affect.

I was downloading and watching a film and getting terrible audio drop outs. I let the film download completely before watching and no audio drop outs then,

Fully downloaded - but cannot guarentee that the box was 'idle'.

I have a mini-box in a bedroom and a regular ipad Sky Go user in the house - they were definetley not active during the BBfL re-run which seemed to run fine,  but may have been during HP#1.

But i know what you mean - if the box is 'busy', there is more chance issues (certainly the audio drops)

Form the record,  i have disable the wifi on all Sky boxes and run a LAN cable between rooms.

Cheers

IDS

Re: HDR programming stops being HDR durinf the programme

Am still having the issues - it is now getting ridiculous!

BBfl, JoJo Rabbit, Detective Pikachu, HP deathly hallows 1&2, Last Christmas ALL losing HDR signal....

All movies are fully downloaded before I watch them so no streaming at all....

am really starting to lose my patience with Sky - have literally waited years for sky HDR & have been left extremely disappointed.... can someone from Sky address this thread and let us know what is happening!

@Paul+Furlong

Hi,

I am having the same issue as well as the sound drops out, wi-fi issues and mini box picture and audio lag, they all appeared since fitting a V3 Q box.

The HDR drop out problem did not happen for the first week but it has since then, it will happen about 2-3 times during a film.

Fingers crossed for a fix soon

Tony

Re: HDR programming stops being HDR durinf the programme

From my (now considerable!) experience it's across all types of programme, "regular" shows like Tin Star, Sky Cinema movies (fully downloaded), Netflix streamed films and shows - everything. Also, it's nothing to do with the box being busy, happens even when the box is doing nothing else (ie recording something) in the background. Really annoying, spoiling the enjoyment as I'm constantly waiting for the screen to darken meaning it's lost its HDR signal. Hopefully resolved in Q150. Also really annoying as I forked out £50 to upgrade the Sky Q box specifically for HDR.

Re: HDR programming stops being HDR durinf the programme

Just had 2 HDR drop outs in a 1 hour long episode of Narcos. Ruins the experience as you're constantly watching and  waiting for it to drop and go dark. Frankly for anybody thinking about upgrading to Sky Q HDR I'd say wait - it's not yet fit for purpose (nor for the £50 upgrade fee). Wait till Sky get the problem sorted.

Re: HDR programming stops being HDR durinf the programme

@Carol+N  Apparently there's a problem with the V3 boxes crippling the broadband after it's been running for a short period of time. There's a big thread running about it. Perhaps that's what's causing your problem.

I can only find hdr by using voice search, no programmes show hdr through planner, use voice search ‘hdr’, same programmes then display the hdr banner.  Although i dont have movies, alot of movies show hdr banner, just my uhd programmes dont have it

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

@blade+the This has been reported to Sky and is being looked into

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

Sky Q 2 TB (Silver)Box, 2 Mini boxes since June 2016, all connected by wifi
Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband
Ultimate on Demand, Q Experience/UHD, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema
LG 49SJ 810 V UHD TV, Google Pixel 7 Pro mobile

Re: HDR programming stops being HDR durinf the programme

@Piesarus

I've seen that thread but not sure I fully understand the issue nor why it'd cause the Sky Q box to randomly lose its HDR signal, even on fully downloaded programmes? I've got Sky Superfast broadband and my box is connected to the router by Ethernet, so the connection should be fairly stable and there should be plenty of bandwidth. I don't have a major problem with sound drop outs, as some do, nor with losing UHD, as I've seen someone else report, my box just doesn't seem to be able to go for more than half an hour or so without losing its HDR signal.

Re: HDR programming stops being HDR durinf the programme

@Carol+N  Have you seen the latest info in that thread from a Sky employee? They think the issue has been identified and there's a temporary fix. If nothing else it's worth a try.

Re: HDR programming stops being HDR durinf the programme

Yep same problem here had an LG TV and this was happening changed to a Philips TV thought this would be the cause nope still having the issue to the point where we can't watch anything in HDR as it will not work, really strange is if I watch through the app on TV it works absolutely fine with no drop outs so the issue must be with the Q box, why introduce something for viewing pleasure that causes nothing but the opposite.

Re: HDR programming stops being HDR durinf the programme

Definitely the Sky Q box. I can watch Netflix through apps on both my TV and UHD Blu-ray player just fine, but try through Sky Q, for which privilege I paid £50 to upgrade,  and I can't watch a single thing without it losing its HDR signal and reverting to SDR at least once . It's so annoying and distracting I've almost stopped trying to use the Sky Q box, so £50 really well spent indeed. I and a few others have reported it to Sky who acknowledge they're aware of the problem. "Teething problems" with the new v3 box they say. Hence the advice to anyone considering upgrading - hold fire (and on to your money) till they get it sorted.

Re: HDR programming stops being HDR durinf the programme

@Carol+N I am still getting HDR issues - the latest being the new Birds of Prey film.... the thing is there should not be any 'teething' issues.... HDR has been around for a good few years now and every other platform (Netflix, Prime, disney+, AppleTV etc) do NOT have this issue on their standalone apps.... only through the Sky box!!! Sky HDR has been used in Italy for a long while so any teething issues should have been sorted out LONG before launch!!! We all put a lot of money for a service and it should be a good service.... getting something like this sorted should not be taking this long!!!
