hey all, I changed to sky on the 9th, I'm currently on the 500mb package,so far everything is quite stable, I understand it needs time to settle after a new setup but,
My question is this, I've tested the speeds a few times and it's never gone over 100,should I wait longer or is this the highest my line can handle? I did check up before signing and far as I could see and also when I phoned about switching I was told both ways my line could handle upto 500.
If it's not going to go upto that speed is it possible to get my package downgraded to the 100mb speeds? as I don't want to be paying for something I'm not getting.

'Ultrafast 2' 500Mbs isn't a speed that's possible over a 'line': it must be FTTP (optical cable all the way into the address and arriving at an ONT)
If it's not going to go upto that speed is it possible to get my package downgraded to the 100mb speeds? as I don't want to be paying for something I'm not getting.
The only other Sky FTTP product is 150Mbs 'Ultrafast 1'

Are the ethernet cables to the devices gigabit ie all 8 pins wired?
On the router ethernet settings is ethernet set to gigabit or fast
Can you run an ethernet speedtest on fast.com with nothing else running and post

hi and thanks for the reply,
cables are new so I assume they are 8 pin,
checked router settings and it's set to gigabit, here is a speedtest via fast

I think you might have a answer there, I'm using a Realtek PCIe GBE family controller,if I bring up the status page, it shows I'm connected at speed 100mbs! so that might be the issue, if it is, how do I check to see if I can change to a higher speed? I usually don't fiddle with the hardware, my system is about 9 years old now

Just checked a bit more indepth, under the configure tab, adv, speed and duplex it is set to auto negotiation, but the option for 1.0Gbps full duplex is there,I assume I need to change to that to get the higher 500 speed come through?

Gone into the setting and changed it to the 1.0 gbps option, tried another speed test via fast annnnddddd, still the same speed, so I'm assuming my pc's adaptor can't handle the speed,in which case I might as drop to the lower package, as I don't want to pay for something I can't get,I assume I just call sky and ask?

Not sure but the pc may need to be rebooted to affect the change or upgrade the ethernet card
