Ethernet port no working after turning power off

I had an electrician doing some work a few hours ago, so had to turn the electric off, since turning the power back on, only 1 of the 2 ethernet ports is working, have swapped things over to double check, is there a way to reset the port? have tried rebooting the router

Re: Ethernet port no working after turning power off

Hi,

You don’t say where these ports are?  Is it an ISP router or a separate switch?

With the better switches there will be little lights above each port.  If at least one of the lights is not on then it suggests the port is dead and you may need a new switch.

Before you rush out to get one though, there is something else you can try.  The addressing information in a switch (or the switch part of a router) is held in a memory table called the CAM table.  Sometimes this information can become corrupted and stop the port working.  A quick reboot will not necessarily clear this as it takes a little while to “lose its memory”.  I’d try turning the route/swich off for a couple of minutes rather than just rebooting.

Re: Ethernet port no working after turning power off

Hi Stu

This is the sky router/modem, not sure what the model is, but has 3 green lights on the front

There are 2 ethernet ports on the back, which did work, but one now doesnt, there are flashing green lights on both ports

I have connected the one that does work to anotehr router, so have the connections I need, just worried incase the other stops working as well

@jpd1974

So you've taken the device that is working and put it in the other port and it stops working immediately?

Yes, swapped them over and what was in the working port no longer works and what was in non working port, now works

@jpd1974

Yeah sounds faulty then, you'd need to get a new hub from Sky.
