Re: Epic subwoofer … sonic boom

@Adamf1977 if you do try Spotify as @TimmyBGood suggested try a playlist entitled "Bass Lines" by user "subwoofer101" which has plenty of bass heavy riffs. Used it for testing when I got my new sound system😉

Plenty of atmos tests on YouTube that will help you. 🤙

But does the YouTube app actually output Atmos sound?

I've pressed the [...] button a few times whilst watching stuff on YouTube that I expected to be Atmos, and the Atmos icon doesn't appear.

Edit: Ignore this - hadn't seen the previous post.

Re: Epic subwoofer … sonic boom

So I've tried this and on the old soundbox it's a boom boom shake the rooms but nothing like that on the Glass in the other room. I'm leaning more and more to thinking the bass speaker is knackered

Re: Epic subwoofer … sonic boom

Well that's the point ... how can we tell if the speaker is broken ?

Yes, actually broken or just not particularly effective would be the key distinction.  Unfortunately since this thread started I've established that the Yamaha RX-V375 AVR which I had been using with Q isn't even detected by Glass on its eARC port using any of the HDMI cables I've got laying around, so I've ordered a cheap 2.1 cable to try.

Re: Epic subwoofer … sonic boom

I was hoping based on its dimensions the sound would be somewhere near as good as my Sonos Beam. It seems that their claims about the sound being good and some of the sponsored reviews hyping the sound up are simply lies.

It's mildly better than a normal TV but no where near even a small sound bar like the beam is capable of.

The fact you can't add a sub in some way or even rear speakers is another limitation that they've just not worked out yet on top of their very poor eArc implementation.

@MartinSom I've not seen the bass in action at a sky shop yet though there's one in the middle of Leeds so may go and check it out there and compare with my own experience.

Entered another level of Hell pairing the soundbox with a puck and a Samsung TV. Eventually resorted to using just the optical option because with HDMI cables it was casuing absolute chaos.

Re: Epic subwoofer … sonic boom

I plugged in my old sounbar, its a Hitachi one, and it worked just liek my old setup.

BUT, the soundbar was £79, why would i have to use this with a TV thats costing me £1000 +   ??

I suspect that's all the product designers were aiming for: the Beam retails at £350, and there's nowhere near that value in the Glass audio system (plus I still maintain the Glass television form factor is a real constraint: although the 'soundbar' section of the enclosure has some height, there's next to no depth to it).  Unfortunately the 'sonic boomio' advertising is really overselling the whole thing.

Re: Epic subwoofer … sonic boom

@bucket57

I have had the Sky Glass 55" since just before Christmas and have also found the Bass Output and Surround Sound really lacklustre.

I tried playing the "Hacksaw Ridge" Navy Guns scene on Sky Cinema that you mentioned and it just has no bass whatsoever.

Turning the volume up just makes it all loud, doesn't increase the bass.

I also played "The Lord of The Rings-The Fellowship of The Ring" UHD Disc on a brand new Panasonic UHD Player and the scene at the beginning when Sauron implodes after having his fingers cut off by Isildur has really awesome Bass in the original audio mix(watched the HD BluRay a while ago on a 5.1 Sound System and it's REALLY grunty!), but again the Sky Glass outputted next to no discernible Bass in this scene.

How can I test if it's a faulty speaker on my new TV or if it's just really **bleep**e bass response from a below par speaker system in the Sky Glass?

Am I looking at having to spend +£700 for a
Dolby Atmos Surround Sound System to get a proper soundscape that Sky promised but isn't delivering?

Re: Epic subwoofer … sonic boom

The way i see it is....

I've had Sky Glass since December 28th.

I do not know at this point in time if the product ive bought is faulty or not.

I do  not know at this point if I am using it wrong

Equally, i dont know if my expectations are too high !

So, the big question on probably everyones keyboard is, who do i speak to ??!

I can only cringe at the thought of speaking to Sky "support" about this, and getting absolutely nowhere !!

As mentioned, unfortunately the Youtube apps only output 2.0 Stereo - whch is such a pity. as you can find many Atmos demos on there but not able to listen to Atmos using them

I am afraid I haven't taken too much notice of SKY Glass capabilities so I don't know if you can use a USB stick to play content

If SKY Glass can play content from a USB source  & you can do a search for the Amaze Atmos demo  from a PC  etc. I suggest you download it & try playing that (I found & downloaded an mt2s file  to play on my system)  - there are others but Amaze is my favourite & I really like the whole use of the Atmos aspects including 360 degree sound and a good subwoofer hit

@nigea99

There's no media playback functionality from the USB-C: we're assuming it's intended for the motion tracking camera accessory previewed at the Glass launch event.
