Can you connect a video recorder to Sky Q?

Is it possible to record from Sky Q using a video recorder? I'm not having any success.

I've used leads to connect the video recorder scart port to the Sky Q box USB port with a Scart                    to HDMI Scaler Converter. Don't know if that's any use. Are the Sky Q box USB ports able to transfer data to the video recorder?

When I try to tune the video recorder to Sky, it says "No stations found". Maybe it's  set up to look for old analogue TV channels.

Hi @CALUM+GRAY

Afraid the USB ports are power only.

As you are aware HDMI is copy protected.

No, I didn't know HDMI was copy protected. I guess that rules out any recordings. Thanks for replying.

Re: Can you connect a video recorder to Sky Q?

@calum-GRAY It is possible to record from SkyQ to a DVD recorder. You use the HDMI output from SkyQ into a HDMI/Scart converter then Scart connection on the DVD recorder - assuming your video recorder has a scart input it should work. Things to note 1) the output from SkyQ needs to be set to 1080 2) the quality is not as good as SkyHD+ to DVD recorder via a scart lead I have yet to find any recording on SkyQ that will not work. I am a little confused as why you are trying to tune into sky channels on your video recorder - record it on SkyQ then play recording onto the video recorder.

Or use the AV socket on a mini box if you have one.

I tried this but it doesn't work. The converter has HDMI as output and Scart as input. Does it need to be the other way around?

I don't know how to include the comment I'm replying to, to be included in my reply to it.

To be honest I'd be surprised if anything like that works.  I'm also surprised you still have a VCR ; )

Your initial post said ' Scart to HDMI Scaler Converter' which wouldn't be correct.

That is the wrong way round.

To include other peoples comments much depends on the device you are using as some do not allow it.

Once you have clicked on reply you then click on the "quotation marks" at the top and it copies the text.

It says Scart ➡️ HDMI on it even though it has Scart as input.

You're aiming to output from Q over HDMI and input to the VCR over SCART.

SCART to HDMI would be incorrect: that's the reverse of what you want to do.

On the converter unit you need HDMI input and SCART output.
