Unable to redeem code for signing up with a referral link

Have have joined sky using a referral link from a friend. I recently received the email asking me to redeem my reward and select how I would like to spend it. However, when I enter the code I received in the email it says incorrect code - try again. 

any ideas why this might be happening ?
