Thinking of going back to Sky

I haven’t had Sky TV for donkey’s years – at least 12 years. However, I watch Formula 1 so I normally pay for Sky sports on Now TV at around £22 a month although this year I got a 12-month gift voucher for Sky sports which finishes in January. (The only sports channel I ever watch is F1)

I also pay £15.50 for Now entertainment and cinema (reduced deal), £5.99 a month for Netflix with ads £4.99 for Disney+ and £8.99 for AppleTV

I’m having real problems with NowTV on my Samsung smart tv. I spend more time on line to their help services than I do watching TV.

So, I am thinking of other ways to get Sky Sports.

SkyTV are offering Sky Stream, Netflix and Sky Sports for £35 a month but it’s a 24-month contract and the price can, (and no doubt will) increase during that time

So, can anyone tell me if the channels Sky offer are comparable to those offered by Now Entertainment Disney and Apple?

Is there a maximum they can increase the monthly price to or is it a free for all? How much extra is Sky Cinema? (I’ve tried looking on website).

And can you record from Sky? (You can’t from NowTV.) TIA

Sky Stream is a full TV service offering live streams of all the free-to-air channels as well as Sky channels. The amount of channels depends on which service you choose - Essential or Ultimate TV. See the channel lists here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-channel-list-sky-glass

The Sky Stream puck gives you access to a selection of streaming apps too but you need to pay for subscriptions to Disney+ and Apple TV+ as well as higher tiers of Netflix if you want 4K ad-free streaming.

You can't record from Sky Stream - instead it bookmarks programmes for you to watch on demand later, either via an app or direct from Sky's servers. It's not perfect but does work most of the time.

NOW TV is just an app which just allows streaming of Sky channels, not free-to-air channels, both live and on demand.

Both services have their merits, but it depends on what you watch and how much you want to pay for convenience. I've personally found that NOW TV gives me everything I want from Sky and I now use alternative hardware to get all my other streaming services. It works out cheaper and more flexible for me than a long term Sky Stream or Glass contract.

Sky subscription itself cannot replace Disney and Apple because that content is exclusive to those services.

Typically each component would increase by several pounds.

How much extra is Sky Cinema? (I’ve tried looking on website).

Something like £10pcm on a discounted rate, but offers change.

And can you record from Sky? (You can’t from NowTV.)

Stream doesn't have local recording because it has no hard drive.    The 'Playlist' is a combination of in-app playback and what's allegedly cloud storage.
