The previous occupiers of my sons flat have a sky debt

The previous owner of my son and his wife's new flat left a debt with sky. I don't want this to affect their credit rating but the contact system for sky is absolutely pathetic, so much so that I am considering leaving sky at the end of my contract because of the sheer incompetence of the systems.

@IanL3 There is nothing Sky can do to help with this situation, Sky will send debt letters to the address they have on file for the account that is in arrears, calling and telling them there are new occupants won't change that(they have no way to verify that is correct). If the letters being sent are from a collections company then contact them, they should have procedures in place to help.

It's the credit rating of the accountholder that might be affected, not their address.

@IanL3  It's a popular myth that an address is blacklisted, it is only the account holders name and associated credit file that shows missed payments/debt etc.

A new tenant/owner has their own credit file.

As long as all the relevant bodies such as council tax/electoral register, energy providers and any credit accounts are updated by your son when they move in this should show on their credit file and any previous tenant would be disassociated with that address.

That is not my experience where the debts of a previous occupier meant failing credit clearance when I had never had debts and everything else was excellent.

It will if you didn't show on the electoral register at the time of applying.

Is there a possibility that a Superuser might escalate this to the online support staff, who may be able to do something about this, rather than arguing about credit scores? Would be more useful I think to @IanL3

No, as the actual customer hasn't posted what their issue is, plus Sky will also speak to the account holder.

The messaging team can't place orders if that is the issue the son is having.

It's not clear what 'issue' needs resolving?

e.g. are they unable to order broadband due to 'debt' showing at the property?

@GD1 The issue is that the previous occupier has left the flat their son now lives in. I think Ian wants Sky to note this on their systems so that their son isn't bombarded with letters from Sky and debt collectors.

@Anonymous  The account holder needs to contact Sky not a 3rd party, placing a note on the account won't actually help with debt collection letters either.

We don't even know if the son has an accout with Sky, if they don't no one can tell sky to update another customers account notes.

Any debt collection will be addressed to the previous occupant.  Debt collectors have ways of tracing new addresses.

Exactly, but their systems are so poor I can't contact. No wonder my son in law left their programmer department.

Obviously not working well that one. I know the address and they can now sing for it.

@IanL3

Why can't your son (the account holder) contact Sky?

@IanL3  Unless you are the account holder Sky won't speak to you about any other account, it would be a breach of Data Protection.
