im looking at the social tariff as I'm on universal credit with u

@Steveo1234 I'm confused. It has been a long time since Sky permitted customers to have a telephone service and a broadband service with different providers. Sky only provides broadband AND phone services together.

I don't understand how you have Sky Broadband on your mum's BT phone line.

I can only presume it's a ('out of contract') legacy configuration.

But, in general, Sky do not allow account 'transfer'.  (Only in limited circumstances)

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Yes, that did occur to me, but I thought Sky had taken action to eradicate those, some time ago.

Why am I not eligible for social tariff

I am on sky broadband unlimited and have been with sky for 11 years when I made a enquiry about social tariff I was told i wouldn't be eligible as I only have sky broadband and no phone as I am using my mums Bt line to use sky broadband as I was originally a o2 customer and sky took over.

my package is broadband unlimited £29.76

supplement for not having sky tv £2.50

supplement for not having sky talk £500

which total cost for month is £37.26

i only getting WiFi speeds downloaded 5.62 mbps

upload 39.36

ping 215 ms

under the guidelines that sky lists I am on universal credit and have sky broadband only

it doesn't say I have to have sky talk to be eligible for social tariff.

would sky allow me to go on social tariff and the customer staff was wrong even though I only have broadband

if they refuse me I  will have to look at cheaper options or virgin media or bt who are supposed to be removing all copper wires and replacing them with fibre

i tried my phone 4g broadband and that was faster then sky so I could get a 4g router if sky doesn't help

my 4g speeds was

download 53.82 mbps 113.17 mbps

upload 39.38 mbps 39.64 Mbps

ping 264 ms 276 ms

if anyone has any knowledge or know if sky has to accept me on social tariff with just broadband let me know please

That's not entirely correct: the national FTTP rollout is an Openreach* project.  In this context, 'BT' is an ISP in competition with Sky, and if Openreach has put optical infrastructure into an area then BT, Sky and numerous other competing ISPs can offer 'ultrafast' broadband over it.

if anyone has any knowledge or know if sky has to accept me on social tariff with just broadband let me know please

ISPs don't 'have to' do anything: their participation in the Social Tariff scheme is voluntary.  To be eligible for a discounted monthly broadband subscription the customer must both receive a qualifying State benefit and meet any other terms and conditions which a particular ISP chooses to apply.

*Openreach Limited is a BT Group company, but acts as national network maintainer and is required to provide equal service to all client ISPs.

@Steveo1234 would it not make sense to rationalise both telephone and broadband services with one provider, either Sky or BT? That would dispense with the penalties you're currentl paying for not having Sky Talk and Sky TV, and would make it easier for you to claim a social tariff?
