TV Cooling Off Period potentially ends before broadband connected.

Hi,

I've recently put a new order into Sky due to unsuccessful renewal negotiations with Virgin Media.

Looking through the T&C's I noticed this regarding the TV cooling off period:

Cancellation period for TV services:
You have the right to cancel your order for TV services without giving any reason any time up to
14 days (“cooling off period”) from delivery of the Sky Glass or Sky Stream puck you ordered at
the same time as your TV services or, if you did not order a Sky Glass or Sky Stream puck, from
when any of the TV services provided under the contract are activated.

My broadband isn't due to be connected until the 29th of Jan, however my account says the stream puck will be delivered within the next few days. Looking at the above, i'm a bit worried my cooling off periods will not be aligned and the cooling off period for TV will end before I can even test it out as the broadband won't be connected.

Anyone able to confirm if the cooling off period for TV will actually begin once the stream puck is usable on the 29th when the broadband gets connected?

Thanks

The puck is 'activated' (and the cooling-off countdown starts) when first connected to the internet or 14 days after delivery, so you should have a few days of overlap

That's my issue. If it goes by the former of those two options then my cooling off period would end before the broadband is activated and it would likely be delivered on the 10th. The cooling off period for TV could end on the 24th before the broadband is even installed on the 29th.

If there's no internet available at the address then the former cannot apply, and the puck might as well stay in its cardboard carton. It's the second date (14 days after recorded delivery) which you'd need to look out for.

When is your existing broadband service scheduled to end?

The Virgin internet and TV isn't being cut off until the  5th of Feb so there is some overlap. I'm just irritated that I could potential have to pay for two TV packages even if it's just a week. It also removes my ability to cancel the entire TV and broadband package if the Broadband isn't fast/stable enough.

I feel like it's obvious if I place an order for TV and Broadband that I want them both to start on the same date.

Think i'm just going to cancel the whole Sky order now and delay for a week or so before potentially ordering again.

They're different services sold separately, with different delivery and activation timeframes, so perhaps it wouldn't be obvious to Sky that that was your intention, unless you explained it to them.

Sky appears to auto-activate a puck to avoid the situation where a new user could end up with free Sky Go access for months by not plugging in the new subscription hardware.

As @Mark39 indicates, Sky Broadband and Sky Stream are entirely different products and provisioned on very different timescales even when ordered coincidentally.
