I'm considering switching from Sky to another provider with a better deal and have a few questions regarding this.
Firstly, I understand my new provider (Not Virgin Media) will sort out the switching and canceling of my Sky account which is out of contact anyway so no issues there, and if I've selected to keep my landline number I assume that will just carry over too?
I also have Sky TV Essentials with a Sky+ box so I assume I'd need to cancel that separately or does that get canceled too?
If I need to cancel it how easy is it to do? I can easily substitute my box with a Freesat+ one I have so I just want it canceled and save the £10 I am currently paying.
Finally, once I've switched, how do I return my equipment both the Sky+ box and Sky Hub I have?
Thanks in advance.

Hi @6891andrew,
Starting with your broadband and talk package. This will usually be automatically cancelled as part of your new provider switching you over (similar to what happens when you switch energy provider). This is due to the broadband service being supplied via the same phone line so your ISP can just be switched as only one IsP can provide your landline number and service to your property at a time.
The TV package needs to be cancelled by yourself but phoning Sky. Even if you are out of contract you still need to provide Sky with 31 notice for TV cancellation. If any of your sky equipment needs to be returned to Sky they will inform you of what needs to be returned and you can request they send you return packaging for you to place the items into.

Thanks for the reply, when the new provider does the switching that's when Sky should contact me for the return of their equipment which would be a Sky Hub or whatever wifi router variant I have.
How would I be able to return both pieces of equipment at the same time if that's possible? Obviously, my new provider would be dealing with the switching of my broadband and phone but I have to deal with my Sky TV Essentials and Sky+ and would love to be able to just return everything at once.
Should I cancel my Sky TV Essentials at the same time as my new broadband activation date or beforehand? I guess it doesn't matter when I do it but really want to have everything with Sky canceled roughly at the same time and send all equipment back at once.

If you have a Sky + box Sky won't ask for that back so that's your to keep and use as a freeview reciver if you so wish.

Note that it's Virgin and every altnet (fibre-laying) company and every cellular/satellite/WISP data provider which are not currently covered by the Ofcom 'one-touch switch' system.
'Switching' only applies where both ISPs have broadband service carried over the national Openreach telecoms network, and does not include subscription television products even where both companies also provide television.

Yeah I saw that when I was looking up what broadband deals were out there.
We don't currently have fibre in my street and not switching to Virgin so won't have to worry about cancelling things other than the essentials tv we have.
Knowing that I can keep the sky box and only need to send back the sky hub is nice.
Thanks for the help

I would also contact Sky as when I diecided to switch over (Sky couldn't offer me higher speeds) they say they need 14 days notice and that the new provider does NOT contact them.
I contacted them for peace of mind, I thought my contract was up too, turns out it wasn't and I would have been charged £60 if I hadn't checked.
