As you note Sky+ is not longer supported by Sky and a loss of service wouldn't normally be covered. Usually, if you have Q and cannot receive programmes then you can request a credit for the period where you couldn't access.
You'll have to ask Sky to see if they'll apply a goodwill credit.
Alternatively, source a Sky+ box cheaply or use Sky Go. (I believe this may be available prior to install but again you may need to ask Sky)
