Sky now chasing bill from 2 years ago
Morning all,
I hope all is well. I wonder if someone can help with this very odd query. I had a Sky subscription for around 20 years but decided to cancel this in late 2022. I paid my final bill and thought nothing of it. Since then, I have been using various streaming platforms but have now decided to return to Sky. Unfortunately, due to my poor broadband I can't get Stream, so I opted for Sky Q. So, I logged into Sky to see what offers were around and realised the account linked my email address was still live, so Iogged in and noticed an outstanding balance of £19.99 under the bills and payments section. I contacted Sky and they informed me I had a replacement Sky HD+ remote back into 2022 (they think around then) and said I never paid for it. I did ask why they never contacted me about this and they said when accounts go into 'dormant mode' outstanding balances are not chased, and since I recently logged in the account became live again. I did explain that this was really poor service and that I was looking to purchase Sky Q and a new dish (around £59 one off installation including admin) but they are sticking to their guns and want the balance cleared first. Although this isn't a huge amount of money, I feel it’s more the principle. I have spoken to a number of agents who promise the resolve the issue but nothing happens, however, I did speak to one helpful agent and she agrees and is in the process of trying to remove the outstanding balance, but her request keeps on getting rejected by the back-office team. So, my question is, how long can they legally chase an old bill if I haven’t heard from them in over 2 years?
Any advice would be gratefully received.

The bit I find confusing is that whenever I've bought a new Sky+HD remote from Sky (and there's been a couple over the years) it's always been a straight purchase from the Sky Accessories website, so paid for at the time, like you would with Amazon etc, rather than being added to the Sky account.
Do you recall buying a new remote?

Hi, yeah i think I did. But I'm pretty sure it was through the Sky Store as you said. I'm going to ask for the invoice/bill (proof of order being placed), plus I'll see if the bank can assist with tracking down the payment.
