I recently switched from SkyQ to Sky Stream in April this year. Sky have never asked me to return my SkyQ box. Are they not interested in returning old boxes anymore? I'm worried that if I dump it then they will ask for it back!

Do not dump it as it is owned by Sky so will need returning.
Sky usually sends packaging out near the end of the cancellation notice period of 31 days for TV so as you haven't received it then you can use whatever boxes you have or can get as this link will help you to print the return label and return it via Royal Mail:

Add a note inside with your account number and a list of equipment you have included.
Make sure you get and keep proof of posting when sending this off.
