Sky didn't inform me before increasing my DD

I started a new contract in march for£26 a month for 24 months.

I know find out sky are taking£29 a month.

They've not informed me of this increase and I've had no notifications since march.

I tried to sort it yesterday but got nowhere. After the infuriating bots I finally got a human who simply said it was the annual increase. When I said they should have told me, all I got was waffle then a silent line.

Is there any point bothering with sky, or should I just talk to my bank to see what they can do? If target not spend 20 minutes with bots again.

Hi @NellieB91   You were informed and agreed to it by accepting the terms and conditions which clearly state there will be an annual increase, delayed 60 days for new customers. Read the small print.

I know of the annual increase that's why the new contract was negotiated. My point is that they didn't tell me the cost of the increase or when it would be applied, there was no mention of any increase when the new contract was discussed. They've done it without my knowledge. I thought the DD guarantee was for this sort of thing. That's why I'm asking before going to the bank.

@NellieB91 your bill, available two weeks before payment is due, notifies you of the amount of the forthcoming payment, giving you time to query it before payment is made.

The only reason your bank could seek to reverse the direct debit is that it was unauthorised - which it wasn't.  Any such reversal will be rejected by Sky and passed back, to your account. I don't know if Sky would impose a late payment fee under those circumstances.

Mark39, thanks, I guess that means checking the app every month. I still think they should have informed me of an increase, but taking in what you've said, I think it's lesson learned.

Thanks for your help.

I'll admit to not checking my bills before payment is made, because it's a pain! But I do know when annual increases are due and have a note of when contracts expire. I make sure to check then - might be an alternative for you? It's still possible to be caught out, of course, but it's a risk I don't mind taking.
