Sky billing me for TV service after switch to virgin media. Package

I recently switched from Sky to Virgin Media. Whole TV Broadband Landline package. I was not clearly informed that I had to cancel Sky TV service as that can not be done by the new provider. I have been charged for 2 monthly bills amounting to £280 for a service I haven't been using. I left a package and signed up for a new package and the email from Sky said I did not need to contact them.  I feel like I have been scammed. Customers need to be made aware of this. I will be contacting the ombudsman.

Unfortunately I doubt you will have a case with the ombudsman. The T&Cs state that you have to give notice on your service and broadband and TV are separate services, with different contracts and different T&Cs. If Virgin told you they would cancel all your Sky ( broadband and TV) then your complaint is with them for misinforming you.

The reason that another company can cancel your broadband is due to OFCOMs one touch switching service for broadband, however this is only for broadband and data protection laws wouldn't allow another company to cancel your TV service as it's not linked to the broadband contract.

My beef is with both as neither instructed me to cancel TV service, it was all very much " Leave it all to us  no need to contact anyone "

I just think it needs to be made clearer at the time of switching.
