Absolutely "Sky VIP" is a waste of time. Nothing but dubious competitions or tickets to something far away I wouldn't want anyway. The whole thing is carefully crafted to be NO COST to Sky, but the over-the-top advertising claims you're getting something worth having in return for your loyalty. It is all so cynical it makes my blood boil.
IF YOU WANT TO REWARD ME, TAKE SOMETHING OFF MY MASSIVE SKY BILL..

Firstly if you aren't happy with the cost of Sky cancel it, no one is forcing you to subscribe to Sky services.
Secondly there have been plenty of free things last year on Sky VIP that aren't location dependent. At points last year they had both 12 months and 6 months free of Paramount plus (great for the non Sky Cinema subscribers), 6 months free Apple TV, they normally on a monthly basis have a free audiobook. A couple of times a year they give free movies from Sky Store, in additional to the odd Tesco voucher giving £2 off chocolate.
thats not to mention the ballots they run for cinema tickets, shows and sporting events and the competitions they run. Yes winning anything in these will be hard due to the number of people entering but you can't exactly say this is nothing. Is someone likely to want all the offers and prizes no but there is usually something for everyone available every few months.

Sky VIP doesn't, and never has had anything to do with subscription costs.
If you're 'out of contract' re-negotiate or cancel. If you're in contract, you've nothing to complain about, as you've agreed the subscription price.

I've been checking the Sky app for around 3 months now and apply for anything that takes my fancy. I have won Newbury races tickets and theatre tickets to a Motown show. I'm chuffed to bits! Please check the app on a regular basis and enter everything going. You get the option of turning tickets down which will go to the next person. You have nothing to lose as its free to enter.

I'm really pleased for you but competitions are promotions that cost Sky probably nothing. They shouild be open to all Sky subscribers. A reward for 26 years loyalty should have an immediate value, something you can take to the bank. It need not be of great value., just something I don't have to COMPETE for. Too much to ask, I know.

The vast majority of Sky customers are VIPs.

I have won a couple of tickets to a film preview in the west end and a kids theatre show
I get more annoyed that the two free cinema tickets are only for vue cinemas and there's only 92 in the country so not near many locations for use so it's pot luck on where you live if you can use that offer

No just cinema tickets one a month to a cinema working distance of me would be good enough thanks lol

I'm a retired engineer and frankly the majority of films and TV of the last 25 years don't interest me very much. There are exceptions of course but Sky VIP tends to favour the young, which is fine. For myself, just take £20 per month off my bill as a reward. It will go towards a takeaway and lessen the effect of the excessive monthly bill.

That won't happen.

Of course it won't but if you don't ask (I know Sky monitors all this) you don't get. My old living room TV doesn't have WiFi so we've been stuck with Sky satelite, but a new one has it all, so I can install other options that are a fraction the cost of Sky and see how they stack up. If we can get the content we like then why, as pensioners, go on paying £127 every month? It doesn't make economic sense.. And we can get rid of the dish. I'd feel better if Sky offered rewards after 26 years we can actually use.and that don't involve hours of travel. It won't. So we don't feel valued as long-standing customers who've never missed a payment.

Thanks for your thoughts, but trailing an HDMI cable all the way to the router (not nearby) is something I already ruled out. I have a new set, still boxed, which I will install this coming week. Whether it's satellite or WiFi, I dont see that the cost of the 8 items I pay for will be affected. I certainly don't want another contract tying me to Sky for two years or whatever. BT aleady did that when they sent me a new router and renewed my contract, all without asking. I won't be caught twice. I have 70Mb reliable internet btw,
not huge but more than enough. It will take a month or so to check out alternatives. As Sky's single motivation is profit, mine is to halve (or better) the ridiculous £1530 a year we pay watching TV. Ten times more than the BBC.
