Re: Scam calls from sky promotions??

Well I have been doing that for 6 months now, but now given up, just had my third call this week, all I can do is keep telling the caller to imagine they are ringing their own dad, but I think they all probably did that first!

Hi @MrBlue1   If you are talking about the telephone numbers used by the scammers, don't bother as they are spoofed numbers (not real) and change day-to-day.

Re: Scam calls from sky promotions??

Hi All,

I would just like to put some context here.

uk laws force companies like sky to outsource their sales call centres across the globe including a lot in the uk to sell their products at for the most part heavily disconted prices than if you went direct to sky. these calls can be a nuisance but also can be helpful to others looking for a bargain deal. sky who provide all of your info to these companies at a pricre for the xl spreadsheet so the companies can make a comission of selling new contracts.

neither are really ethical but an unfortunate reality. the stature of each of the outsourced operations vary quite a lot to very reliable to out an out scammers.

be careful but also be informed.

be well all.

provide their phone number next time too so others can be aware to avoid/take up bargain prices.

Re: Scam calls from sky promotions??

Hi, I had a call today from a mobile and said it was sky offering 30% off my bill and a samsung watch. I told them I just changed my password but forgot it and they replied"you must remember it if you just changed it" and sniggered. They sent me an email to reset it as I had already given email address and home address. Also told me I sounded like a teenager when I am 40+ really unprofessional. I didn't click on the email. Changed my Password immediately just incase and rang sky who said they have no record of any calls of emails from them to me. They almost got me, first time EVER as I am really savvy, caught me off guard as I was waiting for another company to call me. Be careful guys, just put phone down and call sky if in doubt, if there is an offer they will email or write to you and it will still be there if you hang up, all the best!

Is this a scam?

This morning I received a phone call allegedly from "Sky promotions "advising me that I was getting a 30% discount off my monthly payments. Fortunately I was in a shop and unwilling to tell them my secret password. I doubt this is genuine but I can't see what the fraud angle is likely to be.

They said they will ring again next Tuesday!

Typically the aim is to gain enough information from you to be able to place a legitimate looking order for high-end handsets (usually iPhones) from Sky Mobile which gets delivered to your home: the scammers then call again to 'rectify the mistake' by having you send the hardware to an address under their control.

You can choose to give them an incorrect password: if they accept this then you know it's a scam.

Re: Scam calls from sky promotions??

Just had a phone call from a landline from apparently sky promotions, he knew everything about me including my last two digits of my bank details, secondary email address, where I lived previously... Saying he could save me 40% of my sky bill.. Just be aware when somebody calls you it might not be from Sky as he had my passwords and everything!

Ok, they tend to use rotating numbers...

As an aside, a major source of weakness if reusing passwords.  It's a common attack to try compromised email and passwords on other websites - you'll be amazed how many will work...

Re: Scam calls from sky promotions??

Same with me. Was only half giving my attention and gave my address, they had my name and number before I realised as recently been in contact with Sky about broadband. Hung up when they asked for password. Did anything come of yours?

Re: Scam calls from sky promotions??

Had exactly the same experience this morning, challenged the caller with a few questions, & they eventually rang off
