@eiamjw  timeframe is irrelevant here as you will be connected to the first available agent when you reach the front of the queue 

the agent will then sort you out , as a side note cancellations are confirmed by email so make sure you receive this, it should arrive instantly or a couple of hours after the call without it you need to assume the cancellation hasn't gone through 

just stay on the line for as long as possible ignoring the automatic voice and you will be put in the queue

I am having similar issue. I have called Sky and they are saying that I will be charged £20 for cancellation

Without knowing what they actual said and why you will be charged it is difficult to advise but it could be that you are in the minimum term of a contract hence the possible charge.

I am not on minimum contract and after asking her the reason of cancellation charges thrice, she then said there are no charges. But she doesn't have an answer why at the time of subscribing the message says account can be cancelled without calling customer aupport.

This is exactly how it is and it's typical of big companies... They'll happily let you subscribe with the click of a button but make it so long and difficult to cancel! They're all the same and Sky are now better!
