Sorry to hijack an old thread, but I thought that I should share my experience as a Platinum customer for Sky TV. Over the course of the next two months, my Sky TV subscription will increase by 30.3%. Sky has come up with an offer for a new 2 year contract but CS adamantly refuses to let me see the terms and conditions of the contract that I would be agreeing to.
In particular, I am concerned about the uncertainty of the annual price rises. I was told today that I would have the right to cancel my contract (within a certain period) once any price increase is announced. This forum thread suggests otherwise. This is what I specifically wanted to see in writing. I have given Sky contract cancellation. It is probably the big kick to leave that I needed.

Unless they've made or are making a change to the T&C's then you're quite correct, the mid-contract price rises do not allow you to leave the TV package penalty free. Broadband yes, I did that myself a few months back but did re-negotiate the TV package (for an 18 month new deal) that suited ourselves despite still having about 6 months left on minimum term.

CS was adamant that I could cancel Sky TV but they will not provide any evidence to support such a claim. It would seem that minimum term is now 2 years.

If that the case then now way I can sign up to 24months.So when my 18months is up I be leaving Sky.

Yes, all re-subscriptions and new customers alike are minimum 2 year deals, which means 2 mid-contract price rises, with no way to leave unless (as I said) they have changed their T&C's. If they have then I can't see why they wouldn't be able to at least send you a link to read them online. I suspect they're either clueless or just flat out lying.

'Clueless or flat out lying' - the Jury is out on that one. I don't think that is unreasonable for a customer to ask to see the contract terms and conditions before agreeing to unknown annual price rises.; particularly, as the contract seems to have changed (eg; 18 months to 2 years minimum term).

Looks like I be going back to Sky Stream only one month contract.

Irrespective of the right to cancel, I don't want to sign up to a 24-month deal for TV and broadband. Sky has lost so much content over the last two years I'm not confident there'll be much of anything left in 2026!

It looks like Sky is going to have to get into line with OFCOM policy.

But only for new or re-contracting customers from January next year, which means any new or re-contracting (or recently re-contracted) customers on a 24 month contract can still be charged two rises worked out on the present T&C's.
From January next year they'll simply increase the price from the get go.

Agreed. However, Sky is now an outlier. The decent thing would be for them to take action before they are required to do so.

The likes of Virgin have already made this change and its worse news for customers ( which was easily predicted). Mid-contract prises rises aren't gone, they just have to be set at the start of a contract which means the providers are putting in higher annual price rises baked into the contract e.g 8%-10%, which seeing how inflation is back in the 2-3% category is signifcantly higher than what likley would end up being 5-6% rise based on the previous model.
As these companies can't predict 2 years in the future, they will have to be low risk and set a higher annual charge than we would have seen under the old model.

My contract is up for negotiation in December and as painful as it might be perceived by me, I also may have to consider Stream.

What I find strange is subscribers moan all day long how bad sky is and believe me it's garbage the programs are utter rubbish, but then a subscriber will say I will go over to stream why ? Your still watching the same garbage on stream 😕 Since Comcast took over the quality has took a severe dip to the point I have cancelled my subscription, And I am delighted to say it gets switched off next Monday what joy. I can't wait to be rid of this junk TV. 100s of channels of nothing is how I describe it. But it's 100s of channels of nothing in HD and UHD that sky charge you for on top of your subscription 😁 And not forgetting advert skipping that sky charge £5 for the privilege and subscribers pay for its unbelievable for skipping adverts 😁 Can I suggest to people life exists outside this junk TV and advert skipping money making scam by sky.

We have been out of contract now for a month. We miss the convenience of Sky recording but as most Apps offer 'Watch from the Start' recording is no longer a must. Our primary reasoning for leaving was a lack of content and increasing prices. So far no regrets.
