Not renewing my SKY TV package

I don't want my SKY TV subscription or add-ons to renew so I contacted them via chat.

Is it correct I'll receive an email requesting me to approve renewal as I was advised this?

I cannot recall receiving an email for approval at the end of the first year

Thanks

It seems to be a recent thing.

If you've successfully cancelled, you'll receive an email confirming the cancellation.

Re: Not renewing my SKY TV package

I haven't cancelled anything as yet, that's why I'm asking.

On my Sky products page I see 'Sky Signature' with a offer ending date of 24th December

Sky's own info on the subject is clear as mud.....I cannot wait to get away from them again...they work in the dark ages!

Re: Not renewing my SKY TV package

I think I found my answer from another

Contracts don't end until they are cancelled by the correct methods. As the end of a discounted period the contract continues at the full price. Just before that happens the onus is on the customer to call to renegotiate a new discount or cancel.

That's correct. You have to give 31 days notice to cancel a TV package and 14 for broadband/Talk, so call and give notice to cancel 31/14 days before your contract ends.

Note that because you're billed in advance, you'll inevitably be billed beyond the date your services end, but Sky will refund the overpayment.

To clarify what Mark39 said. You have to give a minimum of 31 days according to the Sky terms. There is nothing stopping a customer giving 35, 45 or any other number of days as long as it's a minimum of 31 days.

https://www.sky.com/help/home/your-account/my-account-and-subscription/cancelling/cancel-my-subscrip...

Cancellation period

A minimum of 31 days’ notice (cancellation period), which can’t end before your minimum term finishes, is required to cancel your Sky TV services.

Re: Not renewing my SKY TV package

I guess I'd better get on the phone to them tomorrow to give notice because my anniversary...or the only date I could locate on my account is 24th December.

If what you say is correct, their customer services don't know their own policies as I explained clearly what I wanted to do and they said cancelling buy way of notice is not the same as 'not' renewing.

I'll see what they have to say.

@sparkymarcopolo68

That's basically correct. Not renewing means you're not looking to negotiate a new discount (which is subject of a new minimum term of 24 months) and will carry on paying the full undiscounted price.

Cancelling the subscription is where you contact Sky and tell them that you wish to end your subscription which would be subject of a notice period (TV 31 days and broadband/Talk 14 days).

Re: Not renewing my SKY TV package

All done and good riddance....how the hell the older generation are meant to deal with SKY and understand not only their way of working but language barrier I'll never know.

I'm going back to subscribing individual services and the cost increase is worth the simplicity!
