Not all Sky Customers are created equally

Hi Everyone,

Once again reaching out (after my Sky Mobile disaster) to lament the days of feeling like a valued customer.

I have been a Sky Customer for the last 15years. I rent so I have had 4 successful home moves with them. And I was an early adapter to Sky Q as well as a constant Sky advocate.

Last month I gave 30days notice to cancel my full Sky Sports package (I frequently cancel BT/TNT) along with Sky Cinema. Within 5mins all my packages were cancelled as there were no deals available at the time.

My mother, who is also a Diamond customer, just phoned me there to say she was getting Sky Sports and Sky Cinema for free!!

I phoned the loyalty team and got talking to a really lovely woman who straight out said offers are per individual customer not by tier. So what is the point? I didn't say this to her as she did not make these rules.

So this is the really quirky bit, which I must check with the Communications Regulator:

In order to see if there were any deals available, they first had to add back my old packages and this would automatically cancel my cancellation notice. 🤔

This applied whether or not I actually took any deals. It is truly bizarre. The new 14day cooling off period applies which seems silly considering it is superseded by the 30day notice policy. I've also just realised that if I hadn't taken a deal, I would be paying full price instead of the discounted price from 24th April to 3rd May.

The other option was wait until 25th April and see if a deal had mysteriously manifested by then. Let's roll the dice..

Anyway, after a very short period , there were deals available: Sky Sports for free, Sky Sports Extra for €20 and Sky Cinema for €4.50. Yes to Sky Sports and No to Sky Sports Extra. I also took Cinema (I swear I will watch it this time). Free Sky Sports is for four months and discounted Sky Cinema is for 6months.

So it seems gone are the days the Sky would ring you to tell you they had offers and encourage you to add to your package. Irish people love a bargain (see Sky Cinema above).

The agent today could not have been more helpful but it is very, very obvious what Sky think of its customers. Without notice our calls were outsourced and now you have to almost beg to get a deal off them. Certainly don't feel like a valued customer. I never thought there was a whole lot of credence to the whole tier thing but just letting you all know it is absolutely meaningless.

Sky VIP rewards have never had much to do with subscription costs, other than the occasional discount on a specific product. My suspicions are that advisers have limited discounts they can offer to anyone who asks, and once they're gone, that's it.

SIgnificant ciscounts have pretty much dried up over the last year or so, so you've done well to get Sky Sports for free! In 25+ years with Sky I don't remember ever having received an unsolicited call offering me a discount, but I know from previous forum posts that some, like you have. Makes me wonder what I've done wrong!

Well this is it exactly. You haven't done anything wrong so it seems they just take your loyalty for granted.

Hi @Seeyouhearyme   The loyalty tax has always been there.

Since late 2018 Sky Group has been an overseas division of a major American cable corporation: it's literally not the company it used to be.
