New deal with Sky - do it now or wait till we've moved?

Moving to a new house in 6-8 weeks. Currently with Virgin Media where we are now but they don't cover the area we're moving to so going to switch to Sky. Our Virgin deal has just switched to a monthly rolling contract at the end of my last deal. Wondered if anyone else had been in this position and what you would advise - would I be better switching to Sky now and using their services at my current property and then do a house move once I've joined Sky - or does that just complicate things and would I better just starting a new deal at the new property?

The main thing I want to avoid is time without internet once we've moved, what would be the best way to go about this?

If it was me as you will be moving soon I would stay with Virgin and arrange for Sky to be set up at your new address.

As @caesarome suggests - better to wait until you've moved. 

Are you only switching your broadband to Sky or are you planning on having Sky TV too? 

Sky Q (the satellite service) will require installation by an engineer which, depending on where you live, can take a few weeks to arrange. 

Sky Stream (the internet delivered streaming service) is self-install and the Stream pucks can be delivered within 24 hours but require a fast and stable broadband connection in order to function at all. 

Depending on the type of broadband you are planning on taking from Sky, there may be a delay in getting it set up too. If it's full fibre then Openreach will have to attend and install a fibre box at your new property - Sky will arrange this - but it may take a few days. 

Once you have a confirmed moving date then it's probably worth calling Sky to place the order for what you want. 

If all else fails and you cannot get broadband installed immediately then you could always ask your mobile phone provider for additional or unlimited data for a month in order to use your phone as a WiFi hotspot. 

If you have a smart TV then you can always watch live TV via the relevant streaming apps or free-to-air via an aerial, and get a month of NOW TV to stream Sky programmes until you have your chosen TV service set up.
